20 Questions to ask Potential Wedding Venues Before you Book

Choosing your wedding venue can seem like a really daunting task during your wedding planning journey. It’s pretty much the first major decision you will make and will ultimately help inform all your other choices. From style and location to decor additions and food choices, all these things will stem from that first choice. 

We know many couples can find the process daunting, so today we’re here to help. We’ve gathered 20 important questions together to ask your potential venues before you sign on the dotted line. We’ve covered all areas that you should be considering from availably to on the day set up. 

Availability & Logistics

  1. Is our preferred date available, and are there backup dates?
  2. How many weddings do you host per day?  
  3. What is the maximum and minimum guest capacity? 
  4. What areas are included in the package? Getting ready rooms, ceremony space, reception areas, bar areas etc. 

Pricing & Payments

  1. What is the total package cost, and what does it include?
  2. Are there additional fees we should know about such as corkage, overtime, security, service charges?
  3. What is the payment schedule and deposit amount?
  4. Is the deposit refundable under any circumstances?

Food & Bar

  1. Do you have in-house catering, or can we bring in our own supplier?
  2. Are tastings included in the package? If not, what do they cost?
  3. What drinks packages are available, are they customisable? Such as drinks reception, toasts etc. 
  4. Can you easily accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies?

On the day suppliers & Setup

  1. Do you have a preferred or required supplier list?
  2. How much time do we have for setup and breakdown?
  3. What décor is allowed? Such as candles, sparklers, hanging installations. 

Policies & Contingency plans 

  1. What is your weather backup plan for outdoor ceremonies?
  2. What time does the event have to end, and is overtime available?
  3. What insurance or permits are required by us? 
  4. What is your cancellation or postponement policy?
  5. Who will be our on-site contact on the wedding day?
