“We got the end of the heatwave in April so had a lovely bright day for our ceremony and drinks receptions. Taking advantage of the beautiful gardens of the Barn. Our amazing florist, Aoife, from Harvest Blooms created beautiful boho and whimsical flower arrangements for us. The Village Barn has such a wonderful decor already we didn’t really need to add any additional decor which meant less stress for us in the build up!”
Couple: Karen and Emmet
Engagement length: 18 months
Wedding date: 2025-04-12
Wedding location: The Village Barn
Photographer: Ian Hennessy
Karen and Emmet met as teenagers and shared mutual friends. One day, when they were older, Emmet offered Karen a lift home from college and it all started from there.
Karen shares their engagement story: “We visited Madrid in October 2023. We headed to El Retiro Park for a stroll and hired a boat. Emmet popped the question there in the middle of the lake.”
They really wanted a spring wedding with a relaxed and informal feel to the day.
“We went for black tuxes and black bridesmaids dresses. I wanted my bridesmaids to look and feel their best so they each chose their own dress for the day. We got the end of the heatwave in April so had a lovely bright day for our ceremony and drinks receptions. Taking advantage of the beautiful gardens of the Barn. Our amazing florist, Aoife, from Harvest Blooms created beautiful boho and whimsical flower arrangements for us. The Village Barn has such a wonderful decor already we didn’t really need to add any additional decor which meant less stress for us in the build up! My mam did decorate some vases and milk churns for our ceremony which we loved as they added that personal input.”
Karen chose the Padma dress by Morilee, which she got from Angelo Bridal. It had the romantic and boho look that matched their wedding venue!
Emmet and the groomsmen got their tuxes from Penthouse Menswear.
To compensate for the black tuxes and black bridesmaids dresses, they really wanted to use their flowers to create a pop of colour!
“We had an intimate spiritual ceremony which was short but sweet. The music was super important to us so we had Joe Kearns play our ceremony. Couldn’t recommend him enough. We had some Angela and Julia Stone, Damien Dempsey and other artists that we loved. We had some short readings and wrote each other a letter that our celebrant Susan Lawlor read out at the beginning of the ceremony.”
This beautiful spring wedding was hosted at The Village Barn.
“The Village Barn is so relaxed with such a beautiful backdrop. It’s hidden away in the middle of the beautiful town Tyrellspass and you would never even know it was there. We knew immediately from the feel we got and the lovely welcoming staff that it was the place for us. Our guests were blown away by everything about the charming venue.”
The wedding was wonderfully captured by Ian Hennessy!
“Ian Hennessy captured our day and was such a pleasure to work with. He was so friendly and pleasant but blended into the background seamlessly.”
To entertain their guests, they had live musician, Joe Kearns play during the drinks reception out in the sunshine. They played a game of bingo loco, followed by music from their DJ. Instead of a traditional guestbook, they opted for an audio guestbook, which guests really loved.
Karen shares her favourite memory from the day:
“Our guests enjoying the fantastic music by Joe Kearns was magic. The sun was shining and everyone was in such great form. Our game of bingo loco began with a conga line and was a great way to get people up dancing!”
Newlyweds give excellent wedding advice, so here’s what Karen had to say:
“Keep it simple. Social media can make it seem like you need all these extras to make your day but they’re really not necessary. A good photographer is a great investment because you will have the pictures to look back on when the day is over.”
