How did you meet and get engaged?
We met in 2010 through tag rugby. Eoin proposed on a Saturday morning in April 2019 after I returned from a park run. He had t-shirts designed for our small children Saoirse and Senan with the proposal printed on them, then he got down on one knee!
Describe your wedding:
Our wedding was during the Covid-19 pandemic. We had originally postponed but decided at the last minute to go ahead on the 8th of May. With a week to plan we ordered clothes to wear online as our wedding dress and suit were in the dressmakers as we didn’t think we would need them! We chose comfortable relaxed clothes with colourful touches and the same for our children. As our florist is local we were able to have our original flower arrangements and bouquet with minor alterations to tie in with new colours. She did an amazing job and it really made the difference to our day.
Tell us about your bridal look:
I had to do my own hair and makeup, not something I am good at! I kept it very simple, curled my hair and pinned my fringe back. I kept my face natural with a soft eye and lip using bare minerals make up. I wore a Frock and Frill maxi dress, it was nude with a floral and bird embroidered rainbow polka dot overlay. I wore blue dress sandals by Bourbon and my only jewellery was a pair of silver and purple drop earrings that belong to my mother.
What did your bridesmaids wear?
Unfortunately they couldn’t come and have to keep their dresses up until next year. They will be stunning then.
What was your ceremony like?
The ceremony was very relaxed but intimate. There was us and our two children and Eoin’s parents who acted as witnesses. I walked up the aisle with the children which was lovely. There was no mass, just the sacrament and social distancing had to be maintained from the priest. It was brief but it was everything we needed.
We have incredible friends and family and they were all so supportive. They organised so many wonderful surprises; gifts, cards, zoom parties, video messages, champagne, flowers, chocolates, treats for the kids and many more; we felt so loved. Some of them even got dressed up and celebrated at home with one another, it was truly lovely to know that they had their own mini celebrations and were thinking of us.
Tell us about your wedding venue:
We had Poulaphouca House and Falls booked for our wedding reception which we will have in May 2021. We went to our venue on the day to take a couple of photographs and they had set up afternoon tea and champagne and a sneaky pint of Guinness on the lawn for us. It was a delicious and very nice surprise. After that we went back to our home and spent the evening in the garden, it was glorious. We relaxed, played with the children, ate, and danced and got in touch with our families and friends.
What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?
Having our first dance outside in our garden as the sunset.
Have you got any advice for other couples?
Do what feels right for you. Be positive and focus on what you have rather than what you don’t.
