Meadhbh and Pa met as teenagers when they were working in Marks & Spencers. As Meadhbh explains, when it came to proposing Pa went to great lengths;
‘Pa had asked me to go for a spin to Muckruss House on New Years Eve. When New Years arrived there was a storm and Pa had gone out that morning and I didn’t think we’d be going for the walk so I didn’t get ready presuming the plans were no longer going ahead. But, when Pa returned he was very surprised I wasn’t ready and said he had a meal booked. I panicked and got ready as quickly as possible and we took off to Muckross (from Cork). When we arrived, I wouldn’t get out of the car because it was raining and I had just washed my hair. After about 20 minutes of sitting in the car, Pa disappeared to the bathroom and returned and said we should go to the gift shop for a look around. We left the car and started walking, but Pa started walking towards a group of people who I couldn’t make out in the dark and I put my head down. All of a sudden a huge “CONGRATULATIONS” came out of the big crowd and it was both sides of our families, parents, siblings and my Granda. Pa was down on one knee and asked me to marry him, I said yes after our families had been waiting for hours in the rain for us to arrive!’
The couple decided on get married in the autumn and chose a rustic themed day which worked beautifully against the backdrop of Barnabrow Country House.
‘We had a very autumn and rustic theme for our wedding with terracotta and rust as the flower colours, a lot of candles and a few pumpkins! We had beautiful weather on the day, it was like a summers day. My dad did two beautiful paintings for us and these were placed on either side of the ceremony.’
Meadhbh wore an ivory chiffon wedding dress with long sleeves and a pearl veil from Sharon McGregory Bridal and carried a fabulous bouquet featuring bracken and in-season autumn blooms. Her bridesmaid wore a dark green velvet dress, and Pa fitted in perfectly with a rich green velvet jacket and waistcoat from Red Church.
‘Barnabrow hit the nail on the head with the vibe we were going for on the day, rustic and autumn themes, and we couldn’t have imagined how amazing the day would go. The people working in Barnabrow were fantastic to deal with on the day.’
Meadhbh entered the ceremony to Video Games by Lana Del Ray performed by harpist Carys Ann Evans, which set the tone for the beautiful ceremony.
‘The fantastic Marian Dooley performed the civil ceremony, both of our mams did a reading during the ceremony and our dads lit the unity candles.’
Our photographer:
‘Dee was absolutely amazing, we really could not say enough about her! She had a fantastic vibe about her, so relaxed and truly amazing at what she does. She made everyone feel so comfortable and got some beautiful shots.’
Favourite moments:
‘We both found the speeches very emotional, everyone put in such a huge effort and they were amazing. We had a fantastic and fun time getting ready in the morning
Pa said seeing me for the first time in my wedding dress! And hanging out with his brothers, his dad and my dad on the morning.’
Entertainment for the night was provide by DJ Dave Daly;
‘Dave was absolutely fantastic! He asked us to send him a small playlist to get a flavour of the music we wanted and he hit the nail on the head with every song played! Everyone was raving on him and we also booked a 360 photobooth from him which everyone loved. We got our party favours from Leonidas and got Tayto sandwiches which were a huge hit!’
Advice for other couples:
‘Try to relax and enjoy every single moment!’
