A Stunning Black Tie Wedding with Red and Green

Articles, Real Weddings

This is Mary-Elizabeth and Alex! They tied the knot in a black tie wedding and celebrated with their guests at the Merrion Hotel. We love that Mary-Elizabeth’s dad was the architect for the venue and it was so beautiful that they didn’t need to do much decor-wise. Look out for the beautiful bridesmaids dresses and how they perfectly match the autumn leaves.

Mary-Elizabeth and Alex were friends as teenagers! They met at a music festival, Alex asked Mary-Elizabeth to go for a drink and the next week they went on a date.

Their engagement story is absolutely beautiful. Here’s what Mary-Elizabeth says:

“It was the summer of 2020. It had been such a difficult year, so we decided to go to Kinsale for a week’s holiday. My family have a holiday home in Kinsale, so we had gone down for a week and friends were joining us at the weekend. On the morning of our engagement, I was going to go for a run and Alex suggested a walk along Scilly walk into Kinsale. To give a bit of background Alex had quite a bad knee injury at the time, so it made no sense he wanted to walk the coast path into town but off we went. Halfway on the walk Alex complained his knee was hurting him and I turned around to tell him “I told you so” to see him down on one knee. It was right in front of Charles Fort with a gorgeus view of Kinsale, such a surprise. We went straight to the Bulman pub to celebrate, our friends joined the next day which was great fun.”

They celebrated their marriage with a black tie wedding, and chose to keep everything very simple. Their ceremony and reception venues are both beautiful, so they didn’t feel the need to add much. The accent colours they chose were red and green to match the bouquet.

Mary-Elizabeth wore a gorgeous dress and veil from Alice May Bridal. Her sister had also gotten her wedding dress there so was really special to go back and find her own. Her beautiful shoes were LK Bennett.
Alex got his amazing suit and shoes from Louis Copeland.

It was a black tie wedding, so the men wore suits from Louis Copeland. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Reiss, and the flower girls and page boys outfits came from Abel and Lulu and Jacadi.

Something that made their wedding extra special is that Mary-Elizabeth’s dad was the architect for their venue, The Merrion Hotel. It’s such a beautiful hotel and they were delighted with the service from their coordinator, Laura McGann and the wedding team.

Their wedding was beautifully captured by Vinny Gregan. Here’s what they said about their experience of working with him:

“Vinny was an absolute dream to have. He made us feel so calm, we had our photos so quickly afterward which was amazing and they are exactly what we had asked for!”

For entertainment, they chose Bohemian Strings, a string quartet for the drinks reception, then for after dinner they had DJ Rob in the cellar bar.

Out of all the memories from their Big Day, they say their speeches are the highlight for them!

If you’re planning your wedding, take note of Mary-Elizabeth and Alex’s wedding planning advice:

“Enjoy every minute, it really flies by so quickly. We would love to go back in time and do it all again!”
