We met… in Australia. We were both living and working over there. We were out separately with friends one night in June in The Pyrmont Bridge Hotel in Sydney which is hugely popular among the Irish community. Our eyes met across the bar and the rest is history!

Our proposal… we got engaged on my 30th Birthday. We were just heading out the door for dinner and I turned around to find David down on one knee!

Our wedding theme/colours… We didn’t have a theme as such. We just wanted to keep things simple with a slight vintage feel. The bridesmaids wore a beautiful forest green so we incorporated babies breath, white and pink. We have our tables names of places in Australia as we have a big connection to Oz having met and lived there.

Things we DIY’d/made ourselves… we made bathroom baskets with all the essential toiletries for our guests and we put together a sweet table.

My dress… I got my dress in the modern bridal in Cork. I fell in love with the beautiful detailing on the back of it the minute I tried it on.

My hair and make up… Stefanie Brennan from Indie dolls did a fantastic job on our hair, she came highly recommended from two of my bridesmaids as she had done the hair for their weddings .we had Karen Maher for make up. Our makeup was fab and lasted all day. We had such a lovely morning getting ready.

His suit…came from suit distributors in Cork.

What our bridal party wore…the bridesmaids wore forest green gowns with a matching embellished cape from Folkster in Kilkenny. My niece was a mini bridesmaid and she wore the same cape with a skirt.

Our ceremony…took place in my local church. Our priest was so easy going and made us very relaxed on the day. Everyone commented on what a good craic he was. One of my bridesmaids sang at the ceremony alongside Michael Hates, they are both members of the Kilkenny musical society.

We chose our photographer because… Daragh from Stargaze came recommended from a family member and after researching some of his work we knew he was what we were after.

We chose our wedding coordinator because…Seán Reid is the wedding coordinator in Langtons and we couldn’t have asked for better. Nothing was too much trouble and on the day, everything was perfect.

We chose our venue because…I am originally from Kilkenny and David from Cork. On returning home from Australia we settled in Cork so I definitely wanted to have the wedding in Kilkenny. we had attended a wedding in Langton’s a couple of years before our own and thought that it was fabulous. Langtons is located in the heart of Kilkenny city and as we had a lot of guests coming from Cork we thought it would be a great location for them to experience all Kilkenny has to offer.

Our menu…we kept it simple with a choice of vol au vent or duck spring roll to start followed by soup, a choice of chicken, salmon or beef for main and a selection of desserts to finish.

Our honeymoon…after the wedding we went to seafield in Wexford for a couple of nights and then headed off on honeymoon a couple of months later. We did a cruise on the Mediterranean, it was gorgeous.

My favourite part of the wedding day… the day from start to finish was fabulous. I think having all our families and friends from cork and Kilkenny and all our friends that we had made in Australia together in one room was unreal.

My piece of advice for other couples… don’t sweat the small stuff! Try not to stress and enjoy the build up to your big day.

What is it that makes your wedding unique?

Kilkenny and Cork have a big hurling rivalry and we both come from GAA mad families. When we walked out from the church we were met with a Hurley bridge! During the speeches, We were also presented with half n half Kilkenny and Cork jerseys. Not sure if they will ever be worn!
