How did you meet and get engaged?

We were both members of Macra na Feirme and met on a volleyball court training one night. I was the world’s worst player but Micheal used to always give me some encouragement! We got engaged in a woodland area just a few minutes from where we live. We had a picnic by a small waterfall up there and afterwards Micheal went on ahead with our dog Monty and sat on a tree stump. He called me over and sat me on his lap (I was actually annoyed at him for going on ahead of me but little did I know) and pulled out the ring box! It was the best surprise.

Describe your wedding:

With it being Winter we went with dark greens, deep reds and a pop of pink for the flowers and kept it a kind of rustic theme. I made the table plan using teacups I sourced from car boot sales and used a small suitcase as a form of guestbook. Micheal is a farmer so I wanted to tie in a slight farming theme too so we had milk churns outside the church and named the tables after breeds of cow. We also had little wellies with flowers at the church.

Tell us about your bridal look:

I was very lucky to find my dress on our first day out! I had a completely different style in my head but the lovely Sam in Lilac Rose in Kilkenny tried a very simple satin A-line dress on me and we all knew straight away that was the one. Never did I think I would cry over a dress!
I went with a natural look make up wise with a red lip and had my hair down and curled. My Mam, ever before I got my dress had a pearl hairband made by Jennifer Wrynne so I was lucky it all matched really well.

What did your bridesmaid wear?

Karen looked beautiful in a hunter green off the shoulder dress from Dessy. She had drop gold earrings with the same green in them to match from Seoidín.

What was your ceremony like?

We had a traditional church ceremony and our priest Fr Gear really made the whole thing. He was so funny and heartwarming throughout the ceremony and we felt completely at our ease.
Suir Strings played cello and violin and they were just beautiful playing a mix of old and modern songs.

Tell us about your wedding venue:

We had looked at a couple of venues and hadn’t been sure until myself and my Maid of Honour Karen visited Faithlegg one evening and just got ‘that’ feeling! I went to revisit it with Micheal a few days later and he felt the same, it had everything we were looking for. They were lovely to deal with throughout and we got a wealth of compliments about the food afterwards. We can’t wait to go back again.

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?

I think it was that moment when Dad handed me away and myself and Micheal hugged at the top of the alter. We were so nervous we didn’t know whether to shake hands or hug and kind of ended up doing both!

Have you got any advice for other couples?

It’s such a cliche but the day really does fly by so try to take it all in and enjoy every moment. It’s so surreal being in a room with so many people and them all being there for you and wanting to celebrate the best day of your life with you!
We were blessed to have such a great group of suppliers as well and this really put our minds at ease throughout.
