How did you meet and get engaged?

Myself and Paul grew up about 5 miles from each other. Paul was a few years ahead of me in secondary school, we knew each other but weren’t friends. Paul then emigrated to New York in 2010 with me following in 2011. Our paths didn’t cross until Feb 2012 while attending a Monaghan GFC Dinner Dance in Queens New York. We began dating and Paul finally got down on one knee in May 2018 while my sister was visiting from home. The running joke among family & friends is that I followed Paul to New York after a kiss in a nightclub before he left in 2010.

Describe your wedding:

I’m not sure I set out with a vision for the day, I always thought ivory bridesmaids dresses were gorgeous but everyone thought I was crazy. I am so glad I went ahead with them the girls looked so beautiful and I think everything else tied in so well. Emer the florist came up with all the ideas for the flowers both at the church and reception and they could not have been more perfect.

Tell us about your bridal look:

I purchased my dress and veil in Pronovias flagship store in Manhattan. The dress was ivory with a sweetheart neckline & fit and flare skirt with beautiful lace detailing and the cathedral veil. I wanted to keep hair and makeup simple and timeless with an up style and natural makeup.

What did your bridesmaids wear?

The girls wore beautiful ivory sheath dresses, with a high neck and cut out detail at the back.

What was your ceremony like?

We had our ceremony in St Josephs Church in Carrickmacross, my parents were married there in 1985, it is such a beautiful church and I always wanted to get married there. It was so special arriving at a church packed with all our family and friends both from home and those who traveled from New York.

Tell us about your wedding venue:

Once we got engaged I knew I wanted to have our wedding reception in Cabra Castle. It’s right on our doorstep at home and really is the most stunning backdrop for a wedding. Living in New York we booked everything over phone and email. The whole team especially Emma could not have done more for us. From getting ready in Cabra on the morning of until we checked out, every need was looked after. So much so when we forgot the rings in our room someone from the Castle drove to the church with them to make sure they arrived on time.
Cabra was the easiest decision we made when planning our day and I have no doubt they will continue to excel in what they do. They truly care about each bride and groom and the attention to detail is second to none.

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?

This is a difficult one to answer. It sounds so cliched but we honestly had the best day from start till finish. If I had to pick I think I would have to say the speeches after dinner, everyone spoke so well. I laughed and cried throughout.

Have you got any advice for other couples?

Don’t get too caught up in the details, things will happen that are out of your control. Soak up the day, it will be over before you know it.
