We met… We meet in a bar in Dublin. Ida was outside chatting with my friend and I came over to introduce myself. He still jokingly thinks I stole her from him!

Our proposal… I surprised Ida with a party. I invited her friends and family over from Germany and had everyone in place while we entered the venue. The crowd shouted “surprise” as we entered. Ida thought it was someone’s birthday until she turned around and saw me on one knee.

The morning of the wedding… we had our wedding pictures taken before the ceremony, which relaxed us a lot and we didn’t have to leave our guests alone for taking pictures after the ceremony.

My dress… was a vintage Spanish lace dress that I fell in love with the minute I saw it and I bought it the same day as well. I got it from the tiny shop in Dame Lane; the  lady was just great with lots of tips and tricks for the Big Day.

My hair and make-up… was kept very natural with one exception – pink lips. The make-up was done by the girls from So Belle in Castleknock who were lovely and came to my hotel suite on the day of the wedding; I still go there regularly for some pampering. My hair was done by Claire Byrne, she did a great job and listened to all my ideas. I had real flowers in my hair (white and pink) and got a lot of compliments on my hair.

His suit… was a light blue, three piece with an ivory shirt and bow tie. It took him an hour to buy it!

We chose our photographer because… we had seen Aidan Oliver’s work before. His attention to detail is impeccable; the way he used the light, the surroundings and even asked the motorbike Garda to pose with us in the pictures was just great. The most important detail though is that Aidan has a fantastic sense of humour with which he was able to put us at ease straight away. We had lots of fun during the shoot and on top of that the end result was amazing. The pictures are all that we have to look back on and we couldn’t be happier with the images captured that day.

Our ceremony… We had a civil ceremony which was held by a solemniser at The Anglers Rest – the same venue where the wedding party took place – which was great as nobody had to travel!

Our wedding theme/colours… the theme was shabby chic. We didn’t have a particular colour scheme as we didn’t want it to look staged but still natural. It turned out that the most common colours at the wedding were cornflower blue and pink like the flowers in my bouquet. For our place settings we picked pictures of our guests which reminded us of an event/memory that we shared and put them in picture frames on the tables. Also on each person’s table was a paper sweet bag filled with sweets, on the paper bags it said “Love is Sweet” and our names and wedding date. We asked our friends and family to bake cakes and bring them to the wedding – everybody loved the homemade cakes and muffins.

Our honeymoon… took place a year later but lasted even longer. We went on a three week trip to Mexico, Cuba and New York.

We chose our venue because… we love the atmosphere in The Anglers Rest and this is also the place where we got engaged.

My piece of advice for other brides… Definitely eat something in the morning before you leave the house before you start drinking Champagne, because you won’t have time to after that. You should find some time for the two of you together to enjoy YOUR day as you won’t see much of each other.
