Covid and Your Honeymoon in 2021

Articles, Honeymoon

After the last 12 months we’ve had and with ongoing uncertainty about travel, couples are still wondering about what to do about their honeymoon. When to go, where to go and wondering if they should book now with all the great deals around. It goes without saying that many couples invest more in their honeymoon (both with time and financially) than they would on their average annual holiday and it is important that you feel secure when you’re booking.

With speculation rife in the media about large fines and how long the Department of Foreign Affairs will advise again travel, my advice is to proceed with caution. Your honeymoon should be something you’re excited about, free of worry! Flexible conditions are a must – you want to know you can change your plans without hassle.

Travel to Europe will most likely be possible first. When? We don’t know for sure, but there some beautiful options for a honeymoon in Europe such as Santorini & Mykonos, Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Croatia’s Dalmation Coast that will be a honeymoon to remember.

For long-haul travel (i.e outside of Europe) it may take a little longer to get there, but I am confident that by Autumn things will look much more positive. There are some wonderful sales on at the moment and long haul travel has the most flexible conditions around.

Many countries require a negative PCR test, but as the vaccination programmes roll out globally, proof of vaccination will be accepted in many destinations. Countries such as the Seychelles and Iceland have already announced they will accept the vaccination. This is great for your budget as you won’t have to fork out for expensive tests.

The Irish government has announced they currently have no plans to introduce mandatory quarantine on all destinations for the moment.

Once we do get to travel, expect social distancing and the increased hygiene measures to be a feature of life for the foreseeable future.

If I was giving 2021 couples one bit of advice it would be to make the most of the hospitality closer to home. Have a summer minimoon at one of our gorgeous Irish hotels, then have your dream ‘latermoon’ once travel restrictions are lifted. It won’t be long before you are en route to the airport and heading off to that overwater villa in the Maldives, hiking the Inca Trail Peru, skydiving in Queenstown New Zealand, driving through California’s coast, visiting temples in Thailand or cruising the Caribbean. In 2022, the world will be your oyster.
