When it comes to love and marriage, there are no longer any rules! The ever changing restrictions on life have turned tradition on its head, with creative and inventive new ways to approach weddings and how they are celebrated. The same goes for engagement and wedding rings.
“There’s no norm anymore” says fine jewellery designer Aoife O’Mahony, “people are looking for new ways to do things and becoming far more creative in their approach to their ring design, capturing their unique story with far more meaningful inspiration and personal ideas”.
Traditionally, in many European countries, engagement rings were not given. Instead an eternity/wedding band would become both engagement and wedding ring, and O’Mahony is seeing more and more of her clients taking this two-in-one approach.
“Many couples have had more time to consider their rings, and have really thought through exactly what they want. It may be they don’t want to crowd or spoil the look of an engagement ring, so they make it super special, working it for both occasions. Or they may simply want to put all their ideas into one fab ring, rather than compromise on two separate ones. Anything goes! The most important thing is getting it right. After all, it is a forever ring, to be worn every day for life.”

For pared down style, a breath taking emerald cut diamond, set perfectly on a simple gold band, is so stunning in its simplicity it needs nothing else. Alternatively, a beautifully toned padparadscha sapphire sits elegantly into the curve of an asymmetric diamond band creating understated opulence. Diamond studded wishbone bands or crossover rings give the traditional wedding band a modern twist for a quiet, glittering elegance whilst multi-crossover rings and delicate beaded bands, are set with multiple diamonds, and worked to mix the size and colour of stones adding playfulness and sparkle.
