The proposal… the real one or the fake one?! Tom and I were sitting at home on our couch and Tom basically said we may as well go over to the hotel and book our wedding for next year! I said if that’s a proposal, you can feck off! He was actually deadly serious! And that is what we did, we booked the hotel that day and decided to keep it to ourselves until we had certain things booked. November 5th, I came home from night duty and to my surprise there were tea lights on the ground in the words of, “Will you marry me”? Flowers, chocolate croissants, and breakfast. Now that’s a proposal! Haha.

My dress… I always thought I would go for something simple and no fuss with my dress. In fact, it was the total opposite, I just fell in love with. I purchased my dress from The Bridal Outlet, Baldoyle.

The hair and make-up… My hair was done by the fabulous Valerie O’Dea (Hair by Val) for any future brides, check her out she is amazing! Make-up was done by the amazing Patrice Rice (Make-Up Artist Patrice). I’m sure you’ll all agree. Only flawless.

Our ceremony… Our ceremony took place in the beautiful village of Killenard in St. John’s Church Co. Laois. Local Parish Priest Fr. Tom Dooley celebrated with my Grand Uncle Fr. John Heffernan.

We chose our photographer because… We chose McMahon Studios as I saw previous work of theirs which I fell in love with. Hilda and Grace were a breath of fresh air on the day. We didn’t feel like they were there half the time but they captured wonderful photos that we can cherish forever. The DVD is superb.

We chose our venue because… we live close to The Heritage Killenard, but when we walked into the hotel and met with Trisha, we really felt we were in good hands and had a good vibe from there. Trisha was amazing. She took everything on and took so much pressure off myself and Tom, we felt so relaxed and at ease throughout the whole planning process.

My favourite part of the day… My favourite part of the wedding day was having all our family and friends around to share our special day with us.

Our honeymoon… For our honeymoon, who could say no to three weeks in Sri Lanka?! Absolutely amazing!

My piece of advice for future brides would be… find a really good hotel with a good wedding coordinator. That is half the battle, trust me! Get that dress you fell in love with, the make-up artist and hair stylist is going to be expensive when you mention the word wedding but trust me, twill be worth it especially if they are amazing. PS – Have a fab day, don’t stress over little things remember, it’s yer day, enjoy it, yer paying enough for it.
