Christina and Colin met in a bar in Rathmines.
Colin’s proposal story: “
“Our wedding was anything but traditional. We decided to go against the idea of having a bridal party. So the only colours we had to focus on were the bride and groom’s. As I’m sure you’re aware, The Village Barn speaks for itself. It’s a rustic, eclectic mix of decor where there’s something to catch your attention around every corner. Very little extra decorating needs to be done. Anything additional we thought of, we wanted to fit in with their eclectic style. As it was a winter wedding, Christina’s bouquet and the men’s button holes were dried flowers, with really vibrant colours. Our guestbook was carved by Christina’s dad (John), made of timber, that the guest could sign with markers. As our cake was actually cupcakes, we could be a bit more creative with our figurines. The wife of a friend of Colin’s knits gnomes, and we asked her if she would do a bride and groom. We never got a photo with this display as the cupcakes were devoured during the drinks reception.”
Christina wore a custom made gown from Dinagh Modes, Castlerea. The dress sleeves were made of lace with a floral design and a beaded belt around the waist to compliment the headpiece which was passed down from her mother, who also wore it for her wedding. The shoes were a shell ivory high Cuban heel with scallop detail (Marian) purchased from Nozomi shoe boutique.
Colin wore a Forest Green Slim fit suit, (Travis by Benetti), with a burgundy bow tie (John Henric) and burgundy brogues (Benetti). A silver pocket watch (Keane’s Jewellers) and shirt sleeve garters were added as accessories.
“Our ceremony took place in The Sanctuary in The Village Barn, Tyrrellspass. One word to describe our ceremony would be – Fun. It was filled with laughs and smiles. Our celebrant, Antoinette Coleman-Kelly, crafted the perfect ceremony for us. We tried to get as many of our friends involved as possible. Whether it be a reading, presenting the ribbons for hand tying ceremony or bringing up the cup of Prosecco for our first drink as husband and wife (any excuse to start early). Our ceremony music was provided by Colin Fahy. Colin (The groom that is) didn’t make it easy for him and gave him some obscure choices from artists like Big Star, Bell X1, The Frames, Chris Stapleton, The Cure and probably most difficult, Metallica. Colin (The Singer that is) was more than up for the challenge. Our guests raved about him all day, with one guest commenting ‘it took me a while to realise it wasn’t a CD'”
“The Village Barn speaks for itself. You could do no extra decorating and your guests would still be blown away. The drinks reception is a quick walk across the grass from the ceremony, so there’s no time wasted in getting the party started. After the drinks reception you move into the converted barn where you’re fed an absolute feast. The main course is always the same sharing platter, where each guest can try a bit of everything. But the real show stealer is their home made ice cream. It’s also the perfect spot for a photo shoot. There’s so many nooks and crannies that there’s no need to go off site, again leaving more time to party. We were lucky enough to get married at Christmas, so we managed to get a night time shoot with their family of reindeer lights.”
“Our photographer was an absolute joy to work with. We booked Couple Photography for our wedding. Ros and Ger couldn’t have done more to make us more relaxed. From our first zoom call with Ros we knew she’d treat our day with the perfect blend of sentiment and fun. We never felt stressed or pulled away from our guests. We were always given time to breathe when we needed it. They were both full of jokes and wise cracks, and couldn’t have gone down any better with our guests.”
“As COVID was still an issue at the time, we steered away from the pick and mix sweet cart idea. Instead having pre prepared sweet bags ready for guests as the moved from drinks reception to main room. Like the cupcakes, these were soon devoured.”
