We met when… Ed was playing guitar with a band in Whelan’s on Wexford Street.  My good friend Lou was going to see the band and asked me along.  Living only down the road off Camden Street I had no excuses! I arrived late and missed the band but had plenty of time to get to know Ed!  The night ended with Ed losing his phone and me writing my mobile number up his arm in permanent marker… he had no choice but the ring me!  Which he did the next day… the rest is history!

Our first impressions of each other… There was some serious chemistry going on!

Our proposal… We got engaged on top of Lugnaquilla (highest peak in Wicklow) on a cold January afternoon!

Our ceremony…  We held a humanist ceremony with our excellent celebrant Emma Sides in the old mill in the grounds of The Millhouse.

My favourite part of the wedding day… was the ceremony.  We’d both put a lot of thought into the ceremony and it paid off.  It captured the essence of what we wanted to say to one another and to our friends about love and marriage.

“Walking up the aisle to Ed with all our close friends and family there was incredibly special!”

My dress… I wore a Badgley Mischka dress from Covet in Powerscourt.

We chose our photographer because…  We stumbled across Fionn’s work with Studio33 Weddings and we loved his style instantly. It was atmospheric, informal, fun and quirky!  It looked like he could tick all our wedding photography boxes!

Our wedding theme/colours…There wasn’t a theme as such. We just wanted a laid back but classy day. Of paramount importance was that our friends and family were well fed and watered and felt relaxed and could say they had a brilliant day!

We chose our venue because…  The Millhouse suited the quirky, classy but laid back atmosphere we were looking for. It also allowed us to hire the whole venue so it was ours for the day.

“From the moment we viewed The Millhouse we knew we wanted to get married there.”

My piece of advice for other brides… At the beginning, sit down with your fiancé and think about exactly what kind of a day you’d like, what will the ceremony be like, who’ll be there, do you want something informal/formal etc. Then don’t deviate from this and don’t bow down to any ‘perfect wedding’ pressures.

“Don’t bow down to any ‘perfect wedding’ pressures.”
– Anne’s piece of advice for brides-to-be

Go with the flow and enjoying planning everything, it’s such an exciting time!  I found Irish and International wedding blogs and websites (such as Etsy and Pinterest) really helpful to gather an idea of how I’d like things to look. Finally, make it personal! Taking the time and effort to add small personal details will really pay off in the end!
