Expert Advice From an Award-Winning Wedding DJ | Stevie Dee

Planning & Advice

When it comes to hiring a wedding DJ, the best person to get advice from is a professional DJ! So we sat down with Stevie Dee, an award-winning wedding DJ. He gave us the inside scoop about the most popular songs that brides request, just why you should meet your wedding DJ before your wedding day, and the growing trend of being an MC.

Why book a pro?

Experience is everything in this business, a professional DJ will make every effort to make sure you have a great wedding, some of your guests could be his/her next customers.

Do you offer the full evenings entertainment or do you come in after the band?

I specialise in full evening events. More people are booking a wedding DJ to cover their music because they can have the original artist singing and also a wedding DJ offers flexibility on the night. I can offer a better service if playing for a full evening. Getting to know your guests and partying with them makes for an amazing wedding.

MCing is a big thing in the US and is growing here, do you offer those services?

Master of ceremonies is a growing here in Ireland at weddings, yes I offer this service. As a modern-day Toastmaster, curating magical moments foiled with laughter, smiles, pride, and tears of joy that you and your guests will treasure forever.

You have great online reviews – tell us about them?

I really appreciate it when the couple takes time out to offer a testimonial to me for DJing at their wedding. It’s fair to say I do more for them than just DJing at their wedding. I go out of my way to make sure their wedding party is great by meeting them personally. No other DJ I know does that with their clients, working with their requests and most importantly playing them.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you at a wedding?

Groom came up to me before their first dance and told me he his shoes were killing him. I advised him to go back to his room put on another pair of socks and come back down, meanwhile, I took the bride out for a cigarette. He arrived back ten minutes later, she never knew a thing.

What other services do you offer?

I offer a selfie mirror package with the latest and best technology. I also offer a saxophonist combo service to play over your favourite RnB or dance playlist.

How important is it to meet with a couple to discuss their big day?

For me it’s everything. I have an opportunity to get to know the couple so that I don’t turn up to their wedding as a stranger, get to know their musical tastes. Because we know each other on their wedding night couples are more relaxed with me. This allows me to help make their wedding day amazing.

You play in the UK and Europe regularly, tell us about that.

Yes, I work abroad mainly in London. It’s a club called The Swan in Stockwell South London mainly once a month. I use this as an opportunity to meet couples who are getting married in Ireland to meet them. It’s an Irish bar/club, often called the Copper Face Jacks of London.

How important is it to your couples to know that you are an award-winning DJ?

It certainly helps, as couple trust the fact that you are an award-winning DJ you must be good at what you do.
