We met… in town one rainy night in November. We had our first proper date in Dakota on South William Street. When we got chatting we realised we had loads of mutual friends and that our paths had almost crossed a few times.
Our proposal… Paul surprised Aoife with a trip to Killarney, her favourite place. She had a feeling that something was afoot when they left the hotel room and she could see a square box in his jacket pocket! He went down on one knee on the shores of the lakes of the National Park.
My dress.. I found my dress on page 1 of the first bridal magazine I looked at. It was stocked in MK Bridal Boutique in Navan. I booked in to see it and knew as soon as I put it on it was for me. It was Paloma Blanca Style 4614. I love symmetry and bows and the big bow on the back sold it for me straight away. Mairead and her team in MK Bridal were absolutely amazing from start to finish. I didn’t want to take it off.
My hair and make-up… My wonderful friend Orla Devine did my make-up. I trust her completely. She made me feel and look like my best self. I didn’t even feel like I had make-up on! Joanne Peden completed the make-up dream team with the beautiful bridesmaids. We got our hair done by the fantastic Paul and his team at Black Amber in Templeogue.
Our ceremony… was in the church where Aoife was baptised, made Communion and Confirmation. She now teaches in the school right beside it so this was really special for her. The Child of Prague worked his magic and the sun shone all day long. We were so lucky! Fr Paddy did a beautiful ceremony with music from the couple’s friends Ruth on piano, Helen on the harp and John on the feadóg stáin.
His suit… was from Guy Clothing, Athlone.
What our bridal party wore… separates from Folkster.
Our wedding theme/colours… greys and silvers with ivory roses and eucalyptus leaves.
We chose our videographer… because of the amazing clips we had seen of Richard Speedie‘s work. His cinematic videos capture beautifully the sensitivity, emotion and fun of the most special day you can have. His professionalism and efficiency is second to none.
We chose our venue because… from the moment we stepped in the door it was perfect. Johnstown Estate know how to do a wedding! We love the old school luxury coupled with the modern style of Johnstown. The food is also amazing. Tamara and her team were so helpful and accommodating to us. The venue is also half way between our two homes and we will pass it every time we travel up and down to our parents so this will be very special for us.
My favourite part of the wedding day… was the ceremony and the first dance. The ceremony was so meaningful and touching for us. We will never forget it. We also loved having our 6 nieces and nephews there, the stars of the show! The first dance (an Imelda May song) resonated with us from the moment we heard it. Our lovely friend Rachel helped us with a few steps and it really helped us to feel comfortable and confident on the dancefloor.
My piece of advice for other couples… Don’t sweat the small stuff. Relax, slow down, take it all in as it’s all over too soon.
