They Got Married By the Sea in Ireland

Real Weddings

Names: Roisin & Joel

Length of engagement: 19 months

Wedding Date:  09-03-19

Wedding location: Radisson Blu, Sligo

Photographer: Wojciech Kosa

We met…  At the Narin/Portnoo Sea Food festival summer 2009.

Our proposal… Joel proposed to me at a local beach when we went for a walk. He showed me a go pro video that he made which showed him going to all the places we spent our first summer together and eventually it brought him back to the beach where he was writing something in the sand which ended up reading “will you marry me”.

Our wedding theme/colours… No real theme but the bridesmaids wore a dusty purple with rose gold accessories.

Things we DIY’d/made ourselves… We made our own seating plan which incorporated all the places in the world we have been and each table had a photo with a magnet of the place.

My dress… A bit unusual, plainish on the front but with a beautiful laced back and train. I got it from the White Collection in Letterkenny.

My hair and make up… Plain and natural as possible with a relaxed upstyle.  Both by Rossano’s in Sligo

His suit… Very unique. He had a burgundy tweed effect suit with a navy waistcoat.

What our bridal party wore… The boys wore the burgundy suit with a burgundy waistcoat. The girls wore a long sleeved dusty purple dress. The flower girls wore pink dressed with gold sparkles and the page boys wore navy waist coats with burgundy trousers.

Our ceremony…

St Mary’s Immaculate church in Grange, Sligo. I loved our ceremony. We had some close family and friends do the readings. And two of my cousins performed the music, which was my favourite thing about the wedding. My mum and Aunties sang at communion.

We chose our photographer because…

We liked his unique style.

We chose our wedding coordinator because…

She came across very well and had a very good reputation.

We chose our venue because… Great reputation and great location.

Our honeymoon… We travelled New Zealand for 4 weeks.

My favourite part of the wedding day… The whole thing was unreal. We had such a great time.

My piece of advice for other couples… Enjoy it! All that NEEDS to happen is that you sign the piece of paper. It doesn’t really matter if everything else goes wrong. Don’t waste energy being stressed and nervous. It’s so much fun having everyone you love together celebrating with you. Just have fun!

What is it that makes your wedding unique?

  • My family did all the music at the ceremony, We had songs from The Beatles and The Cranberries which was quite different.
  • We had sparklers after the food and speeches which was quite cool
  • Our wedding cake was a Krispy Kreme donut cake
  • Both my dress and Joel’s suit were quite different
