When girls get engaged, they always have the dream wedding picture in their heads. As soon as this happens, I would always advise brides to discuss their future progress on their hair with their stylist. I always advise my clients to drink more water. They might need some vitamins but they are not necessary.

Yes, some treatments for hair would really help your hair to be shiner and in a healthier condition, but we all know how tight we are sometimes with the budgets. All brides who have their bookings with me always receive a few tips and tricks for shinier hair.

The day before your wedding, avoid doing any chemical treatments for your hair. Always do 1-2 weeks in advance. A night before you should wash and blow-dry your hair, no straighteners used if you are doing it at home. Have good sleep and after it enjoy your wedding morning.

Bridal Regime (6 months Before Wedding)
I always recommend a 6 month course of Nourokrin Vitamins (Zinc & Biotin). It’s amazing for giving you that extra little shine and fullness we all want for our luscious locks.

Yes there are many ways to prepare your hair for your wedding day. The majority of people nowadays have colour in their hair and/or use heated styling tools, all of which can cause damage if the right care isn’t taken. I like to have an in-depth conversation with my brides-to-be about their hair and offer them advice on what products can help.

For brides looking for thicker, fuller hair particularly those with fine or thinning hair, I often recommend taking a supplement such as Nourkin. I recommend that these supplements are taken every day for at least 6 months before your big day. I also recommend using an energizing shampoo that will stimulate the hair follicles and encourage hair growth and density. Shampoo’s such as Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Scalp Renew Energize Shampoo along with Renew Energize lotion from the same range. I recommend at least 12 weeks of using these products before your wedding day. The Nioxin Hair Care Systems are also something I advise my brides to look into.

Next up is the bride with dry, over processed or damaged hair, crying out for some moisture! Needless to say I point them in the direction of shampoos and conditioners that are highly reconstructive and add lots of moisture to the hair. I also suggested that they refrain from using heated tools where possible and to ask their colourist to add a treatment such as Olaplex to their colour service. The shampoo and conditioners I like to recommend would be Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Reconstruction Reparative Low Shampoo, conditioner and mask. Also the Olaplex No.4 & 5 Bond Maintenance Shampoo & Conditioner would be at the top of my list too.

I would always recommend making sure you are using a professional shampoo and conditioner as these, compared to store bought, contain higher grade ingredients which will keep your hair in better condition. Use heat protecting sprays every time you use a heated styling tool is a must. Also a weekly hair mask would be advisable as not only do heat tools wreak havoc on our hair the outside elements can have an effect on our hair too.

Last but not least the best way to get your hair wedding ready is regular cuts in the lead up to your
day. This way you end will always be fresh and less likely to split. If you are unsure where to find all these products, don’t worry as I did the searching for you and my clients and came across a wonderful website www.beautyfeatures.ie. The company was so grateful that I was constantly recommending them that they gave me a discount code for them to use and now you. All you have to do is type in BEAUTYAGENT at the checkout to receive 10% off your order.

As with everything in life, when it comes to growing hair fast there is no quick fix!

The basic rule is this: To grow great hair you need a healthy balanced diet, adequate sleep, hydration and minimum levels of stress. To begin, Cut the Crap – If it’s broken then you must cut it up and start again.  No buts…This time around you will treat your hair with kindness. Here is your new hair mantra!

EAT – SLEEP – SAVE – REPEAT

You are what you EAT – Hair needs 13 essential vitamins and minerals to grow, are you getting them? A balanced nutritious diet is key.

There is nothing that doesn’t look better after a good night SLEEP – and this includes your hair! The body repairs and grows while you sleep, it also helps manage your stress levels.

You will need to treat your new growth with kindness! This means limit damage from colouring, heated styling tools and general wear and tear you need to SAVE your new hair from any harm.

Invest in some high quality salon products to repair and improve condition. Consistency is key here it takes 4-6 months to see a difference, you will need to have faith and REPEAT your new healthy hair mantra until you see results!

Just remember – A good base is key to picture perfect hair!!

I often get asked about supplements. In an ideal world your diet would provide you with Vit A, C, D, E, B– complex, zinc, iron and protein – all essential for hair growth. Most of us do not meet the ideal balanced diet criteria, so it may be beneficial to supplement. To do so effectively you would need to consult your doctor to determine which vitamins you are deficient in, then choose the best hair supplement to meet your specific requirements.

Did you know essential oils can also help hair growth? Some are equally as effective as over the counter hair loss products! Most notably lavender, peppermint, rosemary and cedar wood (use castor oil as a carrier, which also promotes healthy hair).

VITAMINS FOR HEATHLY HAIR

Zinc is really good for your hair as well as your nails and skin. Food such as oysters, nuts, chicken and yoghurt are full of zinc (or you can take a supplement!). We also recommend eating food rich in Vitamin B, such as avocados, nuts, spirulina, eggs and quinoa. Vitamin B is responsible for keeping your hair thick, help it grow and preventing it from breaking.

KEEP YOUR HAIR TRIMMED

If you need to grow your hair before the big day, it’s recommended that you get a hair cut – and keep getting them every 6 to 8 weeks. This will ensure that you don’t have any split ends at your wedding, helping you avoid that terrible frizzy look that no bride wants. The more breakage and split ends you cut off now, the less you will have to cut off right before your wedding.

KEEP YOUR HAIR IN GOOD CONDITION

It’s important to use a good shampoo and conditioner. Avoid shampoos and conditioners with harsh chemicals that damage your hair and leave it looking dry and dull. We recommend Keratase by  L’oreal. Ask your nearest stockist or your hairstylist for advice on the best one to suit your hair type

As part of my consultation with my clients, we always discuss what vitamins and minerals are best for their hair.

I always explain that people have to be careful when it comes to choosing what vitamins and minerals they use for their hair. Your hair is your frame, so when it comes down to products, vitamins, and minerals you have to remember that everyone is different – what works for one person may not work for another person.

Yes. Vitamin A, C, D, E, Vitamin B3, B7, B12. Minerals such as Iron, Zinc, Iodine and Protein, which we can mostly get from vegetables, seeds, nuts, foods. If we cannot get enough of them from foods, food supplements could be an option. Something like Viviscal hair growth supplements are clinically proven to nourish hair and iodine supplementation to support the production of thyroid hormones.

Hair oils, a mixture of 1/3 Extra Virgin olive oil, 1/3 Castor oil, 1/3 Organic Coconut oil, 1/3 (Pure Jojoba oil + Moroccan oil + Argan oil) massage gently into hair and keep the hair in a shower cap for 30 minute to 1 hour (I sometimes keep it for overnight) before washing as normal may enhance hair growth and make hair healthier looking.

Excessive heat can damage hair. Keep hair down freely instead of making them so tight may help a lot, too.
