A Dreamy Wedding With Pretty Pastel Colours

Real Weddings

“We tried to keep the colour scheme quite neutral. The bridesmaids dresses were light blue and the flowers were a mixture of pastel colours. And as a theme, we named all our tables after plays we have acted in or Dermot has directed.”

We met about twelve years ago. Dermot was part of a drama group, Compántas Lir in Claregalway, Co. Galway. I joined the group and after a few years of acting together, our friendship developed into something special!

Our proposal… We were in New York in July 2017 and we finished a day of sight-seeing with a visit to Central Park. Dermot booked a rowing boat for a romantic spin around the lake, so we headed out into the centre of the lake. While we were taking in the views, Dermot got down on one knee and proposed.

Our wedding theme/colours… We tried to keep the colour scheme quite neutral. The bridesmaids dresses were light blue and the flowers were a mixture of pastel colours. And as a theme, we named all our tables after plays we have acted in or Dermot has directed.

My dress… I bought my dress in Áibheil, a bridal shop in Adare, Co. Limerick.

My hair was by Helga Kampff and my make up was by Ann-Marie Fahy.

His suit… Martin Feeney Formalwear.

What our bridal party wore…. Our bridesmaids wore dresses from Monsoon. And the groomsmen wore suits from Martin Feeney Formalwear

Our ceremony… We were married in Tubberclair Church, Glasson, Co. Westmeath.

We chose our photographer because… He came highly recommended. He was the photographer for my friend’s wedding and she was very happy with the day and her photos.

We chose our venue because… we loved the setting. Glasson Country House Hotel is set on a golf course and with a beautiful lake on the grounds. Many of our wedding guests were travelling from Dublin, so it was perfectly located between Galway and Dublin. The family running the hotel, The Reids, were fantastic from the first meeting we had with them. We dealt mostly with Fidelma, and she was extremely helpful and ensured everything ran smoothly.

Our menu… We had Chicken Caesar Salad for Starter. Soup: Crème of Peppered Celeriac. Main Course: Roast Sirloin of Beef or Salmon. Dessert: Seasonal Fruit Pavlova.

Our honeymoon…We travelled in the US, visiting Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. Then we flew to Cancun, Mexico for eight nights. We stayed in the Rio Palace Las Americas Resort.

My favourite part of the wedding day… The ceremony in Tubberclair. The music was beautiful and it was lovely to have our family and friends with us on such a special occasion. Dermot’s uncle, Fr. Pat Whelan celebrated the mass.

My piece of advice for other couples… Relax and enjoy the build-up to the day!
