10 Things to Think About Before Booking Your Honeymoon

Honeymoon

After the stress of wedding planning, pinning marathons, and getting over the big day itself, it’s only right you have the trip of a lifetime to look forward to! But choosing that elusive honeymoon destination isn’t always as easy as you think – there are a lot of factors to consider including when to go, weather, the style of trip and of course budget. So today we’re joined by the lovely people over at Tropical Sky who are sharing their top 10 things to think about before booking your honeymoon…

It’s the holiday of a lifetime and the beginning of the rest of your lives as a married couple. It’s easy to get carried away with the romance and indulgence of it all when thinking about your honeymoon so we’re here to help. We share a few top tips of things to think about before clicking the all-important ‘Book Now’ button.

1. When do you want to go?
The first thing to think about before booking your honeymoon is when do you want to go? Although it’s seen as traditional by many to go straight after your wedding, some couples choose to wait and go on honeymoon once the wedding is out of the way, perhaps a couple of weeks or months later. This could provide much needed time to save for your honeymoon and could also mean less stress for the bride-to-be in the run up to the big day. Think about when you are getting married and what the weather will be like in certain destinations too.

2. How much are you willing to pay?
Perhaps the most important factor when thinking about your honeymoon is your budget, how much money do you have to spend? It’s a great idea to determine how much you have to spend on your honeymoon before your research begins, this will save a lot of time researching hotels and destinations that are out of your price range. This will give you a bit more focus in how your budget can be spent when comparing different hotels and destinations as well. Don’t always go for the deals and shop around to see what exclusives and upgrades are on offer to you as honeymooners.

3. How far do you want to travel?
For someone who lives in Ireland or the UK, New Zealand may seem like a fantastic honeymoon destination. It’s got beautiful scenery and breath-taking views but when you only have two weeks and the flight is 23 hours long, plus you’ve the time difference and jet lag to consider, you may want to re-think it. When researching tropical places, make sure you consider how far away your dream destination actually is and how long it will take to get there. You may be cutting your honeymoon short with flights and transfers if it’s too far.

4. What’s important to you for your honeymoon?
Whether it’s a city break, beach honeymoon or culture infused trip you’re after, it’s a great idea to discuss how much touring activity you want on your honeymoon. If you are ones for exploring a new city, or seeing numerous sights and museums, it’s a great idea to think about booking a relaxing few days on the beach first to wind down after the big day for a little R&R.

5. Think about the school holidays
As important as considering the weather before booking your honeymoon, it’s also vital to take into account school holidays and destinations where there may be families and kids enjoying their holidays. Not only could your dream honeymoon be more expensive on the school holidays, but if you want a romantic adult-only child free honeymoon, it’s best to go in school term time to avoid the crowds. The alternative is to consider one of Tropical Sky’s adult-only resorts.

6. Will you need any jabs?
If travelling further afield for your honeymoon, think about what jabs you will need before entering your chosen country. Your jabs will have to be booked by appointment at your doctors and often need to be done well in advance of you going away, so it’s important to keep this in mind when planning  your travels leading up to your big day. Also consider if you need to take any Antimalarial tablets, which often need to be taken a few days before departure and for 7 days post-travel.

7. Don’t just follow what others have done
In the full throes of wedding planning it can often be easier to book your honeymoon based on what and where friends and family did for theirs. “They had such a romantic time”, “they said the hotel and beach was amazing” is all great feedback, but it may not suit the kind of honeymoon you want. Think carefully about whether you want to simply follow in someone else’s footsteps because it seems easier and hassle-free, you may come back from your honeymoon uninspired and bored as it didn’t suit your style and incorporate your adventurous sides.

8. Consider multiple destinations
If you’re deliberating between an action packed sightseeing adventure honeymoon, or a relaxing time spent by the beach, consider combining a couple of destinations or resorts into one amazing honeymoon that suits both of your holiday styles. The opportunities for twin or multi centre honeymoons means you can experience the best of both worlds, splitting up your time away to visit more than one country, destination or resort.

9. Taking the kids

With many more couples now marrying after they have had children, or not wanting to leave children behind from a previous marriage, it’s important to find a destination and resort where you can get time for you as a newlywed couple but also have some family-fun. There are plenty of places that will offer you both, particularly in the Caribbean, Mauritius and Dubai.
