Say hello to Katie and Ian! They celebrated with all their loved ones at the local restaurant that Katie worked at for 10 years. We love the way they used sea glass to incorporate a sea theme into the wedding!

Katie and Ian met one Saturday night while Ian was working in a local nightclub, The Forge Killorglin. He offered Katie and her cousin a lift home, and then they all ran into one another again on the Monday night. And, as they say, the rest is history!
They got engaged during one of the lockdowns, while out for a walk along the beach.
Katie says, “When Ian asked me to marry him, apparently I took a minute to respond because a wave came in and soaked his leg. Ian came home early from work to ask my dad’s permission and my dad left him waiting in the shed for ages while chatting to his cousin and to get the champagne and flowers to his friend’s wife who loves taking photos, so she was hiding at the spot to catch the moment. I was 2 hours late coming home as I was painting a classroom at work due to it being so quiet during lockdown and I said to my manager sure I might as well stay on I’ve no plans for the evening. So in our engagement photos I’m covered in grey paint.”
Sea glass was a major part of their wedding style. Katie, her aunt and bridesmaids spent hours trailing the beach looking for sea glass to use in the fish bowl centrepieces.
She really wanted a sea themed wedding, without the typical anchors and wheels, so sea glass was the perfect alternative!
Ian wore a grey Benetti suit jacket, waist coat and navy pants.
Katie wore a gorgeously comfortable dress by Bianco Evento. It was lace capped, with winged sleeves, a v neck and full length skirt, that was not too puffy but so comfy.
The bridesmaids wore sage Maya v neck Pamela Scott dresses. They wore a necklace from The Kilkenny Shop which Katie gave them the morning of and their own shoes and bags.
They describe their wedding ceremony as “Fun, family orientated, and meaningful.”
They had lots of family members and friends involved, and everything came together beautifully with the help of Fr. Kevin Sullivan.
Their venue, Jacks, holds a very special place in their hearts because this is the local bar and restaurant where Katie worked for nearly 10 years. They wanted to make sure that on their day, the staff got to enjoy the day as much as everybody else.
“It’s a lovely picturesque restaurant overlooking Castlemaine Harbour with beautiful panoramic sea views. The manager Brian Keary, his wife Grainne, and Pauline the wedding coordinator were beyond helpful and made the day so special. We also made sure to get a group photo of all the staff working on our day.”
To entertain their guests, they chose Sean Tracey for church music, JP Murphy to play piano for the reception and dinner music, the band King K and DJ Chris O Connor for the party, as well as Paulie O Brien for Day Two!
“We sang and danced all night, the floor was never empty of young and old people!”
This is their favourite memory from the Big Day:
“After our main course, we took a moment for ourselves where we walked outside to take in the sunset and walk to the edge of the gardens in Jacks. We got to finally take in the magnitude of the day and beginning of the rest of our lives. The realisiation set in that the day was nearly over and the best was just beginning – it was very special. Sheenagh caught the fabulous moment on camera.”
Newlyweds give brilliant advice! This is what Katie and Ian had to say:
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Everyone who’s there will be there for you both, not to judge the day. Just go with the flow on the day and delegate the jobs. People are only delighted to help out.”
