“We chose soft pastel summer colours for our wedding colour palette.”

Your Names: Dawn & Richard Downey

Length of engagement: 13 months

Wedding Date: 2019-06-06

Wedding location: Ballymagarvey Village

How did you meet and get engaged?

We met in a nightclub and then randomly again on Hill 16 at a match 5 months later. Richard proposed in Amsterdam at The Magere Brug bridge (The Skinny Bridge).

Describe your wedding:

We chose soft pastel summer colours for our wedding colour palette.

Tell us about your bridal look:

I wore a fitted dress with lace sleeves and back detail.

What did your bridesmaids wear?

My girls wore pleated pastel pink dresses.

What was your ceremony like?

We got married in the local Church in Tinure. Fr. Paddy Rushe was so nice to work with and allowed us to put a personal touch on our ceremony by allowing us to express our personality through our music. Our singer in the Church, Amie Grendon, was amazing to deal with and we had a mix from traditional through to a piano version of D’agio for strings followed by Rudimental – Feel The Love. Fr Paddy made everyone feel at ease and I love how he encouraged hugs in place of a handshake.

Tell us about your wedding venue:

Magical! Ballymagarvey is just amazing in every aspect. It doesn’t matter if it is a winter or summer wedding, the grounds and decor are amazing. The staff are so good at their jobs they make you feel like your wedding is the only wedding to happen there and that all their efforts are going into you and your guests.  I honestly can’t say enough about it. Too many opportunities for photos around the grounds inside and out. The food is also amazing and the food tasting experience is also lovely to do with the family in the lead-up.

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?

We both went outside to cool down from dancing and just stood outside looking in at our wedding reception happening – all our family and friends up dancing laughing and there to mark our day.

Have you got any advice for other couples?

Enjoy the run-up to the wedding – it is part of the whole experience – your wedding day is only 24 hours but every other event in the lead up lends to the special day.
Meet your photographer before the wedding and ensure you are comfortable with them – you spend the most time with them all day – after a 2 hour coffee break I knew Niall Coogan was the man for us – he had us laughing through the whole day and is essentially like your coordinator.
