A Relaxed, Tropical Wedding in Cyprus

Articles, Real Weddings

“When we described our vision to Katie, our amazing wedding planner (Marry Me Cyprus) we said we wanted the day to be relaxed, fun and a huge party and that is exactly what the day was! The colour scheme was classic. We stuck to white, gold lots of green foliage – eucalyptus everywhere! The drinks were flowing from the minute everyone arrived until the minute the day ended – exactly how we wanted it!”

Jemma and Andrew met through friends at their local pub in Surrey. While on holiday in Thailand, they got engaged!

“After nearly two weeks of our holiday, we travelled to a tiny little island called Koh Lipe to stay with our friends at their brand new hotel, Mali Sunrise! The island is referred to as the Maldives of Thailand because of the white sandy beaches and the crystal clear seas! We were staying there for 5 days and on the third day Andy took me for a walk along the beautiful beach to ‘go for a drink.’ When we reached the most beautiful little cove we stopped and realised we were the only people there – except for one guy packing up his things ready to leave. I took my opportunity to ask him if he would mind taking a photo of us with the sea in the background, what I didn’t realise was that he was about to capture our proposal! Everything was absolutely perfect! We walked back to the hotel and celebrated with our friends for the rest of our trip!”

Jemma knew the exact style of dress she wanted: strappy at the top, lace and a long train! The dress was from a Wed2b shop in London and was altered quite dramatically by Martine – Miss Kay Seamstress in Tunbridge Wells. Barely there heels from Steve Madden to try and keep her feet as cool as possible in the Cypriot heat!

Andy wore a cream suit from Reiss, with a crisp white shirt and Oxblood loafers from Russell and Bromely. They wanted a relaxed feel so Andy opted to wear no tie and to have a white pocket square.

They had four girls and four guys in the bridal party. The girls wore really pale pink maxi bridesmaid dresses. They were fully pleated with a slit up the side, with material as light as possible because of the heat! They all held a small bouquet as they walked down the aisle too!

The guys wore matching suits with Andy, really smart cream suits from Reiss with crisp white shirts and no tie. The boys all had very pale flowers pinned to them to match the girls’ dresses.

The flower girls and page boys looked absolutely gorgeous!

“We had a civil ceremony and in Cyprus. They are traditionally quite short so after we said our vows, one of our Bridesmaids (and Andy’s sister) did a beautiful reading for us. This made it more personal to us and even more special. Me and my Dad walked down the aisle to Haley Reinhart’s version of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and after we were officially Husband and Wife we walked out of the ceremony, being showered in confetti listening to Bill Withers ‘Lovely Day.'”

“Liopetro is the venue of dreams! It’s a purpose-built rustic venue made completely of wood and bricks. It is completely private too which was really important to us, we didn’t want anyone to be looking in on our special day! We also loved the fact that both the ceremony and reception could be held in the same venue and that guests wouldn’t have to travel during the day. To stick with the rustic theme we opted to have four tables during the evening meal – one top table and three long trestle tables with foliage and candles along the middle of them all. We thought this would be most sociable for our guests (and it looked amazing too!). The chefs at Liopetro are out of this world! We had a huge BBQ Buffet style wedding breakfast with the most amazing variety of food for everyone!”

“Having an open bar was really important to us. Both of our families and all of our friends all love a glass of wine or two and we wanted to make sure that no one was left with an empty glass, so this was our ‘favour.’ During our cocktail reception we had Giannos Moditis, Moditisax play the Saxophone for 2 hours. He was so good and got people in the party mood – the kids were up dancing already! Aimie Wild was not only one of our photographers but she was also our live singer during the meal. It felt a lot more intimate having her sing while we all ate instead of having a playlist in the background. She got so many wonderful comments from our guests too! We were also lucky enough for her to sing our first dance! Once the first dance was done we partied the night away thanks to our brilliant DJ – Definitive Disco. After we ate, we hired a range of soft play, toys and a bouncy castle for the kids to keep them entertained!”

“Take 10 minutes to yourself to actually take it in. It was the most unbelievable day but it went so quickly so make sure you enjoy every second! Also do your research on the photographers and videographers. These are things you’ll treasure for the rest of your lives, we feel so lucky to have the day captured in the way that we do.”
