We met… on holiday in Portugal! Steve is from the UK and I’m from Dublin so it was long distance for while!

Our proposal… Steve asked my Dad first and foremost! It was the 27th of December and we were back in Dublin for Christmas. He took me to my favourite place at home and got down on one knee. We had organised to meet a friend for some drinks that evening but when I walked through the door of the pub all my family and some of my close friends were there waiting to celebrate with us. It was such a perfect evening.

Our wedding theme/colours… I wasn’t really fixed on a theme. I wanted it to be natural and boho so I guess that was the theme ha!

Things we DIY’d/made ourselves… ha not very much!! A couple of signs!

My dress… I loved my dress, I would literally wear it everywhere if I could! It was Sophia Tolli.

My hair and make up… Again I wanted natural soft hair and makeup and the girls nailed it!

His suit… he didn’t wear a suit! Chinos, shirt, braces, waistcoat and bow tie. We are not massively formal people and nor are our families so we wanted a nice relaxed dress code if you can call it that.

What our bridal party wore… dresses from Chi Chi London ordered online

Our ceremony… was Humanist. And we loved it! Emma Sides is amazing.

We chose our photographer because… Well I think we found each other really. We won our photography package through weddingsonline via HIGM on Facebook. We had a deposit with another photographer when we won the prize. Once we spoke with Aidan and saw his work we were just so happy. We were lucky to have won the package and we didn’t think twice about losing our deposit. Aidan was the perfect photographer. We got on so well together and this is so important for the day itself as you spend most of your day in each other’s company.

Not living in the country you are getting married in means you really need suppliers who are understanding, good at communicating and patient. Aidan was all of these things and he is such a nice person too. We had great craic with him along the way and loved every bit of the service we received (even down to the presentation box the final photographs came in!). We’re so happy we have Aidan’s fabulous work to remind us of one of the best day of our lives!

We chose our venue because… The Millhouse speaks for itself. The grounds and rooms are stunning. The staff there are so friendly and helpful and they literally feel like part of your family for the day. They took the time to remember some of the elderly people in our families names which was such a nice touch. We were also blessed with temperatures in the mid 20’s so we used the beautiful outdoor space.

Our menu… we had a BBQ sharing menu and everyone loved it. The food was delicious!

Our honeymoon… we struggled with picking a honeymoon as we wanted to go long haul but it was the wrong time of year. We went to Corfu to a resort called Marbella Corfu.. bliss!

My favourite part of the wedding day… Honestly, as cheesy as it sounds, it was having nearly everyone you love and care about in one place at the same time. It is literally the best party you’ll ever have in your life!

My piece of advice for other couples… Pick your videographer and photographer carefully as they are with you most of the day and it makes things so much more enjoyable if you get on well. Try to remind yourself to take moments to take it all in as it flies by! Don’t drink too much too early.. it’s one of the best and most expensive days of your lives so you’ll want to remember it! Also when planning your wedding try to remember what you wanted in the first place and try not to get sucked into ‘so and so did that for their wedding so should I do it too?’ It’s your day not theirs so do things as you both want to remember them.
