We met… I moved from Paris to Dublin early January 2007 and I met Ken a week later! My friend and Ken’s sister decided to set us up (without me knowing!) at my friend’s birthday party in Porterhouse on Grafton Street… and we haven’t looked back!

Our proposal… We were spending New Year’s Eve with our friends at Carton House. At the end of our New Year’s Eve dinner, Ken pretends that he’s not feeling well and goes back to our room to get some tablets. After a while he calls me to say that I should come back to the room. I opened the door, walked a few steps to find WILL YOU MARRY ME spelled with rose petals on the bed along with champagne, strawberries and Laduree Macarons (my favourites!). He got down on one knee and I said yes!

What our bridal party wore… The style I had in mind for my bridesmaids was a classic style inspired by Audrey Hepburn. They wore lovely black Alfred Sung by Dessy dresses to the knee and nude shoes and accessories from the high street. The boys all wore black suits from the lovely peeps at Dorian Black and cream ties. Our page boys including our son Liam wore adorable little black tuxedos from M&S with black Converse and our flower girl wore a gorgeous lace ivory dress and cardigan.

Emotional bride morning of wedding

“One of my favourite moments on the day was seeing our little boy in his tuxedo the morning of the wedding”

My dress… My dress was a mermaid style Pronovias lace dress with a lovely train at the back and lace straps. I loved it! I bought it in Kathy de Stafford in Dublin. I also wore a simple organza floor length veil by Kathy de Stafford.

Our wedding theme/colours… We went for a classic theme of ivory, black and blush pink. The wedding itself was a mix of Irish and French traditions with a champagne reception and a cheese platter.

Our ceremony… We got married in St Patrick’s church in Kilquade, co. Wicklow which is a beautiful small and quaint chapel in the middle of the small village. The ceremony was really intimate and personal. Emer O’Leary sang some of our favourite songs beautifully – there was not a dry eye in the church!

We chose our venue because… We both thought that the decor was classy and luxurious but without being stuffy and uncomfortable. We felt at home straight away. When I saw the separate wedding area, with its row of tall lanterns, leading to the drinks reception room and main ballroom, I knew this was definitely a big contender. And then I saw their amazing ballroom – a definite ‘wow moment’! Nessa from Druids Glen is simply amazing! Nothing was a problem for her, she was very professional yet warm, and I really liked her flexibility to adapt the menu to include some traditional French dishes.

We chose our photographer because… Peter Rowen‘s journalistic and natural style is quite unique – he focuses on real emotions and people which is exactly what we were looking for. Not only is Peter a really talented and creative photographer but he’s also a pleasure to work with and a real gent! He made us feel so relaxed on our wedding day.

My piece of advice for other brides… Don’t stress the small things and don’t worry too much about the last minute details. Don’t lose sight of what really matters – getting married to the love of your life! Enjoy the run up to the wedding and the big day of course because the day just flies by and if you enjoy yourself, your guests will too! Try to set aside a few minutes for just the two of you on the day.
