Stunning venue, staff and wedding experience!
Me and my wife's wedding was arranged from overseas, and that was absolutely no bother to the Markree staff. They were very attentive and responsive to emails. It was also easy to organise video calls when needed as well, which they were always on time for too.
The venue itself is beautiful, from the stunning exterior of the castle, to the gorgeous interiors and the lovely garden at the back.
Organisational staff prior and on the day were amazingly friendly, engaged and helpful - they were able to accommodate a small change of location for the ceremony, with only a days notice, with ease (due to the Irish weather of course but even that settled and the sun was out for us), and wait staff were just amazing as well.
They are absolute professionals, and they make carrying off a wedding day look easy, with how good they are at it.
The rooms are lovely, and the suite for the bride and groom is huge and wonderful.
Our families and friends have all raved about the venue, staff, dinner and dance floor area since.

From the moment we first stepped through the doors of Markree Castle until the day we checked out after our wedding on 30 April 2026, we experienced a level of service, kindness, and professionalism that exceeded every expectation we had.

A special mention must go to Nicholas and Deirdre, who were simply outstanding throughout the entire process. From our very first enquiry, they made everything feel seamless and straightforward. No question was ever too small or too silly. Every query was answered promptly, clearly, and professionally, and we always felt supported and informed at every stage of the planning process. Most importantly, they made us feel special. It never felt like we were just another wedding. Everything felt personal, thoughtful, and tailored to us.

When we first visited Markree Castle, we immediately fell in love with its beauty, history, and character. The castle is stunning, exceptionally well maintained, and unlike any other venue we viewed. In fact, after choosing Markree as our venue, we visited several more times simply because we loved being there so much and wanted to experience it in different seasons and conditions. Every time we arrived, Deirdre was incredibly accommodating, allowing us to walk around, explore, and take in the surroundings so that we felt completely comfortable and excited in the lead-up to our big day.

The tasting event in January was another highlight. It was exceptionally well organised, the portions were generous, and it gave us complete confidence in our menu choices. It was a wonderful experience and another example of how much care and attention goes into every aspect of a Markree Castle wedding.

For our wedding stay, we were fortunate enough to stay in the beautiful Maud Gonne Suite. The room was spacious, elegant, and provided the perfect setting before the wedding. Breakfast was delivered to the suite on the morning of the wedding, which was a lovely touch, and the staff could not have been more attentive. There was a wonderful sense of calm and privacy that was exactly what we needed before such a special day.

The wedding itself was absolutely flawless. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish, and that is a testament to the incredible team at Markree Castle. The staff were exceptional throughout the day and evening. They were attentive, professional, warm, and always seemed to be one step ahead, ensuring both ourselves and our guests were looked after at all times. They genuinely made us feel like the most important people in the world that day.

The food deserves particular praise. It was outstanding. From the starters to the main courses and everything in between, every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The quality was exceptional, and our guests are still talking about it weeks later. We received countless compliments about the food, the service, and the overall experience. It was truly one of the highlights of the day.

What impressed us most was how effortlessly everything came together. Weddings can be stressful, but Markree Castle removed so much of that worry. The entire team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything was perfect, allowing us to relax, enjoy ourselves, and focus on making memories with our family and friends.

Our wedding day was one of the happiest days of our lives, and Markree Castle played an enormous part in making it so special. We cannot thank Nicholas, Deirdre, and the entire team enough for their warmth, professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care.

From the very beginning, Deirdre's team has been so communicative and helpful with planning, especially for a bride (myself) who didn't have a professional planner. It turned out wonderfully and every one of our guests loved the experience.

We hosted 85 guests for a destination wedding and everyone has said it was the best wedding they have ever been to! The team is so friendly, the grounds are absolutely stunning, and the food is out of this world. We loved every minute of our 2-day event. We had a lot of guests with varied and extremely severe food allergies. The venue did a fantastic job accomodating all dietary restrictions for 3 meals a day over 2 days! That took a lot of stress off me as the bride knowing my guests were taken care of. The room rates for guests were quite reasonable and a great value given the experience folks are getting. We planned our celebration for over 2 years and sent the markree team literally hundreds of emails, and they were always responsive, kind and helpful, no matter how wild my questions were. We had the most incredible experience at this stunning castle hotel! The venue is absolutely breathtaking and perfect for photos, with its picturesque grounds that hardly need any additional decor. The trees, lush greenery, and serene lake create such a magical, old-world charm. Even if the weather isn't ideal, the indoor areas are just as beautiful, and the chapel is incredibly charming—so perfect for our special day.

My guests were beyond impressed with the venue. The rooms were amazing, and we were so happy to get ready there in the morning. The breakfast was delicious, and the location was ideal for the preparations. I especially loved the Butler’s Kitchen—it was a great spot to relax in the morning. The getting ready area was spacious and had plenty of mirrors, which was perfect for vendors and photos.

On the big day, we were treated like royalty, with the staff guiding us through everything smoothly. We chose the W.B. Yeats package, and the food was absolutely outstanding—every dish was delicious. This castle hotel truly made our wedding day unforgettable, and I can't recommend it enough!

The team in Markree are wedding professionals, and balance moving the wedding group through the motions of the day at speed with making everyone feel like it's the most special event that they have ever catered. We had an absolutely amazing time at Markree Castle and honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. When we first saw the place we were absolutely blown away by the entire setting. The castle, the grounds, the rooms, everything is absolutely stunning. From the moment we enquired about the wedding nothing was too much trouble. All our questions got answered in detail and in a timely manor.

On the day of the wedding there was no stress and no hassle whatsoever. The amazing team at Markree were so helpful and pleasant. They were able to coordinate and sort out the arrangements with all the different people coming and going such as the reception music, the band, the cake, etc, I had thought these were all going to be questions and things we had to organise on the morning but the team at Markree handled everything perfectly and we didn't have to think about a thing. We even had a few special requests which were accommodated for without any issue at all. There literally wasn't a single thing that didn't go to plan on the day. You have the entire castle to yourselves and everything just feels so homely, you are free to walk around and explore at your leisure, and there is plenty to explore both inside and out. Both ourselves and the guests commented on how perfect the day was.

I know I have already mentioned how great the staff are but I feel each and everyone of them made our day the success it was. Every single member of the team is friendly, talkative and cheerful. There wasn't a single member of staff that let the team down. Even when we were at breakfast the next morning the atmosphere was the same, and I really think this contributes a great deal to the day so thank you once again to all the staff. Of course I need to mention a special thank you to both Deidre and Nicholas who we had spoke to on multiple occasions leading up to the wedding, but on the day it was Alex who was looking after us and we honestly cant thank her enough. She was responsible for how things ran and everything ran perfect. Alex constantly checked up that we had everything we needed and always kept us right throughout the day, we honestly couldn't have asked for anyone better. Later that evening another woman took over from Alex and I'm afraid to say I forget her name but she was fantastic as well.

The food was absolutely brilliant as well. Everyone was stuffed at the end and everyone had commented on how great everything looked and tasted!

I could literally talk about our wedding day for ages (and both ourselves and our guests have been!), but I'm sure you get the picture. It was a fantastic day, in a stunning setting, with excellent staff, what more do you want? The day was perfect and we wish we could go back and do it all over again.

It's a wonderful venue to get married in - especially as you and your guests have the whole castle to yourselves!

We’re back in Canada and it all feels like a blur but what a blur it was! We want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in making our wedding day last Thursday Oct 24th so incredible! The venue, food, rooms, staff, EVERYTHING, far exceeded our expectations! The dining room looked amazing!!!! Every little touch then added by our wonderful suppliers was the icing on the cake. All our own touches to the place settings, rooms etc didn’t go unnoticed and were executed beautifully by your wonderful staff - our guests, pretty much every single one, messaged or spoke to us after to say WOW…what a venue and it was by far a wonderful experience in itself, to be and stay in such a beautiful place.

Our guest feedback was truly overwhelming also - Our Irish crowd loved it, saying it was unlike any venue or wedding they’d ever attended before. As for our Canadian guests, they were truly blown away by this fabulous venue that really showcases the beauty of an authentic Irish castle, our warm Irish hospitality, amazing food and surroundings.

This is the Castle where dream do come true! And once upon a time there was a majestic Castle where wedding dreams began. From the moment we saw it 30 years ago we had a love affair with it. So we booked it in January 2023 and 15 moths later got married in all it splendour and beauty. Every bed unique and beautiful drawing rooms to relax with our guest. Then the food which was better than any Michelin restaurant in the whole of Ireland. The staff now thats the real reason that makes Markree magical. From Nicholas & Deirdre, Eoin and Emer who plan everything for you and do everything on the day. All we can say is that everyone else was wonderful and caring too all our guest. No wonder it is now the best wedding venue in Ireland.

Such an amazing wedding venue. The entire team at Markree made sure we had the most magical day. The grounds and castle were so spectacular and created a beautiful atmosphere. All of our guests had a fantastic time and the flow to the day with all the different areas worked very well. Our day two in the castle was also so special.

A real highlight of the experience was the quality of the food at every moment which was so delicious - from the canapés, to main meal, evening food, breakfast and day two food. Far above the standard that Ive had at other weddings Ive been to as a guest.

Absolutely amazing venue and service. Food was unbelievable and all our guests loved everything about the venue and food. Staff were all very helpful prior to our wedding and on the day. We could not rate Markree Castle, and the entire team, highly enough. From our first visit, to every subsequent interaction, we found the team to be helpful, warm and flexible. We were blown away by the Castle and its surroundings when we first visited, and were lucky enough to enjoy a stay in the castle before our big day. If you have the chance to get married at Markree, we would recommend you seize it immediately! From start to finish we had an incredible experience and couldn't have asked for more from the Castle. Deirdre answered all of our many questions thoroughly and patiently, and her calmness and expert knowledge made us feel completely assured that we were in very capable hands. They have a tried and tested process (final details call, summaries of arrangements for the day sent in advance) which removes a lot of the stress of planning from the wedding couple.

The venue itself is absolutely spectacular, both the grounds surrounding the castle and the interior. We had planned to have our ceremony on the terrace in front of the castle, but due to rain ended up moving it to the beautiful unconsecrated chapel inside the castle. The chapel was a stunning and intimate venue to have our ceremony in, and rain or shine you know in advance that you will have a fantastic location available. Inside the castle there are various cosy bars scattered around, a dining room with massive windows which looks out onto the Castle gardens (one of our guests described it as reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles!), an old billiards room that is amazing for photos, a spectacular staircase you can give speeches on, full size snooker table, downstairs dancefloor which is the perfect size for getting guests up and dancing, cosy butler's kitchen, and fantastic bedrooms that allow 60+ guests to stay at the castle.

The food is incredible and there is so much of it- we received so many compliments from our guests on how much they enjoyed the food! The castle is also brilliant at catering for dietary needs whilst maintaining the high-quality taste. Guests who stay at the castle also get breakfast the next morning, which is a lovely opportunity to catch up with everyone who stayed and reminisce on the previous evening.

The castle are very flexible in accommodating requests (within reason!) and we were able to personalise our day to run just as we wanted it to with their help. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and really make you feel at ease. Lastly, the prices charged really do represent fantastic value for money when compared to other Irish venues, particularly given how good Markree are at everything they do and how beautiful the venue is. In short, Markree really was the wedding venue of our dreams, and we would recommend it to any couple who looking to get married!

Perfection from start to finish!

Working with our wedding planner (Martina-O), we shortlisted a number of venues based upon a small number of key criteria:
- Quality of Food/Service
- Character of the Venue
- Ability for exclusive hire

In our case, we were planning our wedding in Ireland while residing in Canada. This added a layer of difficulty in that we had limited first hand experience with venues across Ireland. As such, we were primarily guided by the impeccable reputation that Markree Castle had established within what was a comparatively short operating timeframe versus other establishments. With our planner speaking incredibly highly of the venue, staff, food, and comfort of Markree Castle, we moved ahead without having seen the venue first hand.

As the months passed by amidst daydreaming and planning, we couldn't help but feel some apprehension as to whether or not the venue was as good as it looked in the photos - Conclusion: It is even better than the photos! Having later made the trip to Ireland to select our menus and complete the room previews for the guest allocations, we left with even greater excitement for what we knew would simply blow our family and guests away!

With our guests mainly coming from abroad, we wanted to make the long trip worthwhile, which Markree were able to accommodate having provided date options for three night stay windows within the year. With the dates locked in, Deirdre and those at Markree, with the help of Martina-O, put on what can only be described as the most incredible wedding event we've experienced!

Travel weary guests made their way to Markree to be first blown away by the visual impact of the pristine castle and grounds coming into view, and secondly by the friendly smiles of staff awaiting them at the front desk, amidst the intoxicating smell of the open fire. Everyone was immediately energized and set about exploring the castle and gardens. It was incredible.

Every morsel of food, from arrival, to the wedding day, to the departing day, was exactly what we had hoped for and more. Quality of the food was highest on our list of requirements, and Markree's kitchen staff didn't disappoint.

Throughout the three days Markree's staff flowed with our selected vendors and seamlessly pulled off the wedding of our dreams. The staff were friendly without being overbearing, which made everything so much more comfortable. Not once did we need to check on anything, worry about whether something would be on time, or fret about a single thing. It is still a mystery to us how so many staff moved throughout the hotel, yet were rarely ever seen! You and your guests do not feel like you're in a conventional hotel, you feel like you're free to truly enjoy the venue as your own castle for the weekend.

For guests travelling to Ireland, who have perhaps not been before, the experience of staying in a castle as beautiful as Markree is something that guests will take with them forever. Every room was in incredible condition and oozing character. If you're looking for a castle venue in Ireland, we cannot recommend Markree enough- they truly gave us our fairytale wedding.

The entire staff at Markree was incredible.and helped to make our daughter's wedding a wonderful event. One of our guests was sick on the wedding day and the staff not only helped find medical care but also served each dinner course to their room at the same time the guests were enjoying it in the dining room. Thank you, Markree, for your care and attention to detail. I would highly recommend this venue.

We got married in Markree Castle in June 2023, and we can't say enough about the venue itself and also the staff, who are the epitome of professionalism at all levels. We had our ceremony at the castle, and we were lucky enough to be able to have it outside which was absolutely stunning. The staff were seamless in the level of service provided, and all our guests commented on how attentive and professional they were. Markree is a truly unique and beautiful venue, from the interior of the castle and the various areas and bedrooms, to the exterior entrance area and gardens. The food was fabulous as well, and that includes the canapés too which were served during the reception.

Overall, we can't recommend Markree Castle enough and really just want to thank Deirdre, Nicholas, Alex and all the staff for making our day so special!! x

We had our eye set on the castle ever since our first stay here a few years ago, the moment we walked into the chapel we knew it would be the place for us. Markree is a truly magical place, but what makes it special is of course the people that work there. Deirdre, Nicholas and the team have made it the easiest and most relaxing planning process of organizing the event and the day itself went smoothly and very enjoyable. I don't think we had one word of dissatisfaction or complaint from anyone. Everything from the welcome, the venue, the grounds, the food - was perfect. Each member of staff was absolutely great and made us feel at home. Thank you for making our special day fabulous and being there with us!

The setting really is incredible. It blows you away while maintaining a charm, warmth, and intimacy that really make it special.
We love a good castle stay in general, but there's no denying the air of stuffiness you sometimes encounter. I can't put my finger on why, but this is simply not the case with Markree.
We had a fairytale wedding, while at no point feeling the dreaded onset of having "notions".

A special mention to the Markree team, who were amazing in the build-up and on the day itself. This no doubt contributed to the atmosphere described above.

In summary, many of our guests said it was the best wedding they were ever at; great craic and the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. We could tell they were being genuine and not offering a token compliment. At the end of the day, what more can you want from your big day?

The Markree completely exceeded our expectations. Their attention to detail is outstanding. We felt in safe hands from day one, it was a pleasure dealing with Deirdre and team. We got married around five weeks ago, and every guest we have bumped into since has mentioned the Markree. The decor is stunning (we didn't add any extra flowers other than the top table, and I don't think anyone noticed). The drinks were flowing, and the food at both the drinks reception and dinner was top class. One of the most memorable parts of the day was the speeches on the staircase - we would highly recommend this. Another touch of class from the Markree was bringing my husband and I to the Billiard room to have some time together, when they were seating everyone for dinner - this was so special. We had the first dance in the courtyard which was amazing, and our dance floor did not empty all night - we had the Duck Street Jam Band from Donegal and DJ Bob from Fermanagh. Finally, the bedrooms were out of this world. It was the most amazing experience, a day we will never forget. Thanks again to Deirdre, Nicholas all of the staff at the Markree.

We got married in Markree in late January. Our experience from our first visit to our last was exceptional. On our first visit Deirdre showed us around the exquisite hotel , answering any questions we had. All interaction between then and our wedding was top drawer and we were never left waiting long for any answers to questions we may of had..
On our wedding day Deirdre ,Nicolas and the entire team really left no stone unturned for us. The wedding room was exactly how we had asked and planned , the canape reception for our guests was absolutely top class. The food for our meal was unreal and all our guests still talk about how great the food and venue was.
The accommodation side of the hotel is unbelievable also, everything was perfect and comfortable.

From our first meeting to book and plan our wedding with Deirdre, everything was so straightforward and easy. Nothing was too much hassle, and both herself and Nicholas made the organising of the wedding as well as the day itself stress-free. Both Deirdre and Nicholas, as well as the castle itself, are warm, welcoming and friendly. They did everything they could to ensure things ran smoothly for us, and we couldn't be more thankful to them. We certainly couldn't have asked for anything better. They were more than happy to work with us within our budget to help us organise a package that we were delighted with.

The venue was stunning, the food was exceptional and the staff were lovely. The cocktail bar is particularly good!

We still get regular comments from our guests about how impressed they were about both venue and food. We would highly recommend for a wedding. A stunning place with wonderful people.

There aren't enough stars to give Markree Castle as a wedding venue! Our expectations were surpassed at every stage! From the first day we visited we were so well looked after. Markree Castle is the most magical venue - we could not have been happier! It was the perfect setting for our romantic fairytale wedding. Deirdre, Nicholas, and the rest of the staff are so helpful and warm - we felt at-home right away.

We rented the castle for 3 nights - arriving for the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding and leaving 2 days after the wedding. It was so wonderful to wake up on the morning already where we needed to be, and to be able to go back to our room whenever needed. Plus, the wedding day goes by so fast - we loved having the full day after to relax and enjoy the castle / chat to our guests. (We hosted a murder-mystery game the day after - would definitely recommend that, the setting made it so special!)

One of our favorite things about Markree is that there are so many cozy rooms / sitting areas where you can enjoy a chat with a smaller group. It may seem like a small thing, but we've been to a lot of weddings this year, and this is something we found ourselves wishing for at all of them.

We chose the WB Yeats package - all of the food was delicious. The bartender/s made excellent cocktails throughout our time there. The late night food in the butler's pantry was delightful - everyone loved it and are still talking about it. For our ceremony, we did initially plan to have it outside, but the wind and rain prevented us. That was totally fine though, because Markree's chapel was a gorgeous alternative. Plus, the day after was sunny and beautiful, so we got to enjoy the grounds anyway.

It's been a few months now, and we're still reminiscing about the wedding and the castle. We're still receiving compliments from our guests on how amazing the wedding was - truly in great part to the venue. Thank you so much, Markree, we will certainly be back to visit

In June, I finally had the wedding I've been dreaming of for three years thanks to COVID postponing it twice. The castle was breathtaking, the bridal suite amazing (I definitely want to stay there again!!), the food delectable, and the wedding coordinators truly superheroes for being so accommodating and helpful when I needed recommendations for cake, hair and makeup, you name it. The day of was so relaxing, they took care of all my needs, and I wish I could do it all over again. You can't go wrong having an event here. I'll be talking about this day and experience with everyone for the next few years. I hope I can come back to celebrate an anniversary!

Deirdre and Nicholas were exceptional, and made our wedding day a dream come true. The whole team at Markree went above and beyond to make us and our guests feel special. Markree is not just another wedding venue, it is an entire experience, and having access to the exclusive grounds felt like we were living in a dream world for 2 days.

We choose to have a welcome dinner the night before our wedding, and to be on site the morning of. Nicholas was so professional on our day, and has a special calmness and soothing personality that was much appreciated and helped me feel relaxed on my wedding day. Deirdre is just so wonderful and charming to work with, and her and the team were alway timely with correspondence, and to answer all our questions. The entire staff were exceptional, friendly, funny, professional, and most welcoming. Honestly, chatting with them during our stay felt like we'd been friends for a long time.

We planned our wedding from the states, and Deirdre accommodated the time difference to attend Zoom calls, helped us visualize the planning, accommodated special requests to make our day more personal, and helped outline the days events to accommodate the timeline of the day which was very helpful especially since we had 70+ guest traveling that had no idea what to expect from an Irish wedding.

The food, OMG when I say it was phenomenal I really mean it, and our guests are still raving about it, and we heard on many occasions that it was "the BEST WEDDING they've ever attended." We chose the W.B. Yeats Package and it was amazing. I really appreciated on the day as my husband and I were doing photos the staff made an effort to bring us plates of food from the drinks reception so we wouldn't miss out on the deliciousness.

And when I say we utilized every room and space in the castle we did! We had our ceremony in the forrest (very romantic), drinks reception on the patio, speeches on the main staircase, dinner in the dining room, first dance in the courtyard, and then danced the night away in the ballroom downstairs.

I cannot recommend Markree enough, and want to thank the entire staff for making our wedding so special!!!!!

We had an Irish/US wedding at markree and it was absolutely fantastic! Deirdre and Nicholas and all the staff were 5 star service from day 1! A very exclusive atmosphere at the castle yet a very warm and welcome atmosphere which you usually don't get at castles. Without doubt the most elegant of castles in Ireland and a treasure for the northwest!

What can we say, a truly amazing venue and all the staff made our wedding day so special. Everything was fantastic and so well organized from start to finish. It was the perfect day from start to finish and the whole experience of Markree Castle was like a fairytale. Right from the beginning Deirdre and the team were nothing but helpful and so responsive to every email (the many emails haha!) After every call we felt so relaxed and never had anything to worry about. The entire day was so professional but yet so personal. I'll never forget walking out from the Billiard room to all the staff lined out clapping for us. A class touch! We were made feel so welcome from moment we arrived in the morning to get ready and it was just such a special venue and experience. Everything was first class from the food, staff, service, rooms and how it was all set up. The organisation was unbelievable and they truly run an amazing operation. We will never forget the day and can't recommend Markree highly enough.

After having to postpone from June 2021 we luckily had our wedding on a Sunday in November 2021. We really wanted to show our guests, who were mostly attending from abroad, some real Irish hospitality and 5 star service and thats exactly what we got. Even tough there were four weddings on the same weekend as us, Deirdre, Nicolas and all the staff made us feel very special on the day and they are extremely calm under pressure. If you have your wedding here, you will not be disappointed, everything is pretty perfect about the venue the service.

My husband and I got married at Markree Castle in August 2021. He is Irish and I am American so when we got engaged on New Years 2020, we decided that the best way to get our families together was to have a destination wedding in Ireland. After a lot of research we came up with a short list of venues (including Markree Castle) that we would like to visit to be able to choose one for our wedding. Unfortunately Covid happened and we were unable to make the trip to see the venues before we had to choose one. We were seriously considering some of the more well known venues in Ireland but eventually we settled on Markree because it had everything we were looking for, i.e. beauty, onsite accommodations, availability for private hire, easy to get to from airport, uniqueness, stunning dining and cocktail areas, etc. But what really helped me feel comfortable with booking Markree as our venue site unseen was Deirdre. From the very beginning she went above and beyond to answer all of our questions and make us feel comfortable with our decisions. She was super responsive and even took and sent video walk throughs of the castle so we could see everything without actually being there. She was so patient and kind throughout the entire process and helped me navigate all the covid stress and regulations that came with getting married in 2021. Our wedding day turned out to be everything we could have dreamed of and more. Markree is a stunning venue that feels very grand as it is an authentic castle but also feels very comfortable when filled with your family and friends. Each guest room is unique and have all been redone to the highest standard. We got married in the chapel which is a true gem. Its stain glass windows and wooden pews look equally beautiful in the pictures as it does in real life and the relatively small size fit our reduced number of guests perfectly and made the whole ceremony feel really warm and intimate. The food is served restaurant style from a set menu that you choose before and was delicious. Some of the best food I've ever had at a wedding. My father has a very serious food allergy and they were able to accommodate his needs separately from the fixed menu which he really appreciated. We have to say a huge thank you to Deirdre and her husband Nicolas and every single one of the staff at Markree. They are phenomenal and go out of their way to make each guest feel welcome and keep the event running smoothly. Deidre and her husband Nicolas were such a joy to work with and are a true credit to their profession. We loved every minute of our wedding and can't wait to come back and visit.

We had our Wedding at the beautiful Markree Castle on the 30th December 2020 , and we could not find one fault with the whole experience.
We will start off by mentioning Deirdre and Nicholas the wedding co-ordinators , who helped out on every aspect to make our Wedding Day the day and night it was , they were always on hand to answer any questions we had and helped us through every step of the way , planning a wedding from Hong Kong was made so much easier with their help and expertise , they are excellent at what they do and a pleasure to deal with .
Onto Markree Castle....It's the most amazing castle with the most spectacular gardens and it was an incredible backdrop for all our photos. When we came through the gates the day of our wedding the gardens were frosted over and there was a mist on the river which made it all so much more spectacular.
We were lucky enough to have our wedding at all , with the current Covid-19 restrictions and even though we had only a small gathering it really felt like the Castle was full with our guests at all times.
The staff were so friendly and pleasant and a special mention to the bar man , he was excellent .
The food was top class. We had requests from some our guests who were vegan and vegetarian and nothing was too much for the chef to do for them. Our guests were all saying how good their dinners were. The Guinness was also excellent, a rare thing at a wedding , but the men are still raving about how good their pints were.
We could not recommend Markree Castle enough to anyone who will ever ask us.
The venue, the food, the staff are all top class and when it is all tied in together its makes it the most amazing experience from beginning to end.

What an incredible venue to celebrate our special day. We had a small number due to pandemic restrictions and at one point we thought the castle might be too large. But it couldn't have been more perfect. This venue works for weddings of all sizes, we have been to a few weddings here and it always exceeds expectations. Deirdre and the team were just amazing, she was running around the castle the day of the wedding picking up things I was leaving behind, just so nice and goes above and beyond. The chapel was spectacular and added so much to the day, the food was a 10, the atmosphere was so warm with the roaring fires, beautiful flowers and the Christmas lights and decorations added that extra sparkle. Was emotional driving away the following day. Can we do it again please!

We had our dream wedding at the amazing Markree Castle back in September and I could not find fault with the whole experience. It's the most stunning castle - on the inside and outside - and it was the perfect backdrop for photos. We were lucky enough to have our ceremony outside in the gardens and it was so beautiful. I walked from the potting shed (this is a gorgeous apartment attached to the castle and it's where I stayed the night before) to the top of the aisle on a red carpet and the finishing touches to the decor really made the whole setting magical. The staff had everything covered so I had nothing to worry about.

The food was top class. We had requests for vegan and vegetarian meals and nothing was too much for the chef. Everyone is still talking about how good the beef was! And OMG the desserts were out of this world!! I'm booking to go back for an evening meal over Christmas just to enjoy some of Lee's creations again.

The day was so relaxed and the staff were so lovely and friendly. Deirdre, the wedding coordinator, and her husband Nicholas were amazing to deal with. Deirdre was always on hand to answer my questions in the lead up to the day and on the day itself and she assured me everything was going to work out despite there being so much uncertainty around weddings with COVID. She was right and we had the best day of our lives.

We had a really brilliant wedding experience with Markree Castle. Before ever we were faced with changing dates, reducing numbers both Deirdre and Nicholas were excellent for communication, meetings on-site for us to view the venue and rooms and discuss menus. With Covid restrictions, they were so accommodating and as our plans were changing even very close to the date it was never a problem. The venue itself is really amazing, you have the castle for yourself and your guests for the whole time. We highly recommend checking out Markree for your wedding, you certainly will not be disappointed.

We had our wedding at Markree Castle in March, 2020. It was an absolutely stunning experience and venue. Everyone on staff was amazing. Special call out to Deirdre, Emer, Nicholas and Alex they were always available in helping us plan our wedding from the US. Each and every one of them was so gracious and calming throughout the uncertainty we had from planning this from Chicago. They also provide a vendor list, and all of the vendors were incredible and extremely accommodating. This was very important as we planned everything sight unseen via internet and phone calls. Getting married at the beginning of a global pandemic forced us to change many details at the last minute. Markree was incredibly understanding and worked with us through all of the details. Nothing we suggested was a problem for the team, and they were so accommodating to all our needs and requests. On the day our guests arrived they were blown away by the venue. Every room at the castle was incredible, and all of our guests had a fantastic 2 day stay. The food was amazing and plentiful, no one went hungry or thirsty throughout their stay. We also absolutely enjoyed the castle grounds and Roisin, their Irish wolfhound. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. It amazed us both as the bride and groom how the staff made us feel like we were so important in the lead up and on the day. We cannot thank them enough for making our wedding such a magical experience.

We simply cannot recommend Markree enough. The castle and grounds are truly spectacular and a splendid backdrop for a wedding. The castle itself, although huge in size had a such a warm and homely feel, it was a chilly December day and the castle was warm and toasty. All of our guests were raving about their rooms, they are just fantastic.
The food was exquisite, our guests were in awe of it. It wasn't the run of the mill ?wedding food? but restaurant quality food. From the canapés to the dinner to the midnight feast, every morsel was delicious and hoovered up. The wine, bubbly and cocktails were also incredibly good (possibly too good, judging by the heads the next day)
What made Markree so special was the dedicated team taking care of us. They were remarkable, from management, Deirdre and Nicholas to the amazing chef, to the attentive reception team and the fantastic servers. Everyone was so professional, friendly, helpful and our guests were pleasantly surprised by the level of attentiveness.

We had the most amazing Halloween wedding in Markree Castle. The venue is stunning that goes without saying. The castle is breath-taking day and night. However, Deirdre Nicholas and the rest of the team are what really makes it so special. While there we were made feel like we owned the castle.

The food was so amazing all our guests commented on it and every tiny detail was taken care of. Our little dog Belle stole the show on the day and the staff spoilt her rotten, she had the run of the place. We would highly recommend Markree and all its amazing team! We are sorry this took so long to be written but we came back from honeymoon with a little surprise of our own and have been busy getting ready for the unexpected arrival. We hope to get back to Markree sometime in the future to relive the amazing time we had.

Markree Castle was the first and last venue we considered. Everything about the castle has the wow factor. Prior to the wedding day we were invited to a tasting day to help us select the menu. There was so much choice but not too much as to overwhelm you. We took a tour of the rooms and were able to allocate them to the guests that were staying in the castle on the night. Nicholas and Deirdre Ryan are the coordinators in Markree Castle. Deirdre met with me several times to discuss my ideas and how she could help make them work.

On the day of the wedding I had no worries. Deirdre and my wedding planner Nicole Cosgrove worked seamlessly together to make sure EVERYTHING was in place. Really, I cant stress this enough, the staff at Markree were exceptional. From decoration details, vendor organisation, guest management, flower deliveries, food for the wedding parties and the meal on the day. Wow, just wow.

We had our wedding on a Thursday and we have no regrets. We had a slightly lower price than if we had it at the weekend which is always a bonus. The entire wedding party got ready in Markree Castle and we had our ceremony in the chapel on site. Everything was so convenient. Best of all, our dog Nova was given free reign around the castle and was allowed stay with us for the night.

We highly recommend Markree Castle as a venue and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone there for making our day so magical.

All I can say is if u want your dream wedding it has to be markree castle Sligo, the staff the venue the location was all amazing all the different rooms your guests will be stunned, the food was 10/10 too that's very important and the staff worked so hard they treat u like royalty, every1 that came to our wedding said it was the best wedding they were ever at and that was down to markree!!!

The venue is stunning and all our guests are still talking about how amazing it was to stay in such a gorgeous castle. Also, the staff was so kind and accommodating to us and our guests throughout the whole weekend. We're glad we decided to have our wedding at Markree Castle and would do it all again in a heartbeat.

We could not have chosen better. From the moment the beautiful castle appeared in view as we made our way along the long avenue, we knew this was a very special place.

Every detail of our wedding was given great attention by Deirdre and Nicolas. Organising a wedding from abroad is not easy, but they made it so. Nothing was a problem. They provided us with everything we needed to plan our celebration, supplier lists, accommodation and rooming lists for the castle and detailed menu options for full two days. They gave us endless valuable advice all designed to make our lives easier. I found them both to be very responsive, always calling back or responding via email immediately. But most of all they were very relaxed and are clearly real professionals.

An important aspect of the celebration for us was the food. Everything from the canapés to the meal to the evening food was beautiful. Truly high quality menus using mostly local ingredients, served at top restaurant quality. It was truly a wonderful dining experience. Most of all I was very impressed by the service and the efficient staff - each table was served with military precision so every guest received their meal at the same time. This really impressed our guests - we all know what it's like to have to wait for others to get their food while yours goes cold.

There are so many aspects to Markree castle that we loved. The venue itself is top notch. The food and general organisation of all the different elements were excellent. But most impressive and very much appreciated by us was the flexibility that Deirdre and the whole team provided us. Having researched many other venues Markree stood out from others in this regard. This is a fantastic venue which will provide the perfect experience for any bride and groom and their families and friends.

Beautiful venue in fantastic setting. Wedding co-ordinators were flexible, helpful and responded quickly to emails and queries. Food was delicious and service on the day was excellent. All staff in the venue were of high standard.

We had the most beautiful wedding celebrations; better than we could ever have imagined. This was mainly down to Markree Castle.

Firstly, Deirdre and Nicholas and the team were brilliant, so responsive, accommodating, thoughtful, knowledgable, efficient and professional in every way. Our family members, some of whom are disabled and elderly, were treated with the utmost care and respect which we greatly appreciated.

Markree, inside and out, is truly magnificent. Every inch of it decorated with uniqueness and precision, as well as, maintained to the highest standard. We were allowed access to all areas and it was delightful freely exploring the beauty of it.

The food was also beautiful. The canapés, wedding meal, buffet and breakfast all lived up to our expectations and pleased our guests very well.

Overall, we could not recommend Markree highly enough. We were blessed to have celebrated the beginning of our married life there and we will definitely be returning to reminisce when possible!!

We had our wedding here in July 2019, and my only regret is that we can't do it again!

We could not have chosen a better venue than Markree. We booked it for the beautiful location and amazing venue, but what ended up making the day so special was the incredible quality of service. Deirdre, Nicholas & their team are absolute professionals: Whether they are helping you achieve your dream of an outdoor ceremony (not always easy in the West of Ireland), or making sure a nervous best man knows where to stand and what to say, they made our day flow effortlessly.

We planned it from abroad in less than a year, but it was absolutely painless, because of their expertise.

The quality of the food deserves a mention - we have had a lot of comments saying that it was the best wedding food people have ever had, or that it was restaurant quality food.

Thank you a million times for the gift you have given us - we will cherish our memories of love and happiness in Markree forever.

There are not enough characters to tell you how wonderful a venue Markree Castle is. It's breathtakingly stunning but warm and homely at the same time. Deirdre and Nicholas were outstanding hosts and nothing was too much hassle for them, they're both a fantastic asset to the venue. They followed up with clear communication on everything and helped us with our every request. As a bride my attention to detail is pretty good but they had thought of things on the day that I never would have. When guests were away from their tables to go to the toilet or the bar, a member of staff would come over and put a cover on their food to keep it warm!! Guests are still commenting on the food, we had a choice of fillet of beef, sea bass or chicken and they were all fantastic. We also had a couple of dietary requirements and my vegan friend tells me it was the best vegan wedding meal she had ever had. The whole day ran like clockwork but didn't feel rushed, Nicholas made sure we had some time to relax, sit back and enjoy the day. One of my favourite parts of the day was the quiet time with our bridal party right before we entered the dining room. We all sat and drank Prosecco in the stunning room upstairs, they took our meal order and we had a little moment to breathe. The venue itself is breath-taking, even to just walk around and look at it, which many guests did. The dining room, the staircase, the bar, even the guest bedrooms are all outstanding. My only complaint is that there were not enough hours in the day, as everyone says it flies by but it was a happy, love filled day from start to finish and booking Markree was the best wedding decision we made. We will be back for many more visits, it will always have a special place in our hearts.

Nothing was ever too much and the high level of experience and professionalism from all the crew at Markree really made the difference on the wedding day! It has been nothing but a pleasure dealing with ye over the past number of months and we can't wait to return to stay in the castle for a few nights!

The location and venue are just stunning, from the manicured lawns, luxurious bedrooms and beautifully restored original features, the castle is the stuff of fairytales. Management were so welcoming and very attentive and accomodating to our needs throughout the planning process. We were lucky enough to have our drinks reception, speeches and our band play out on the patio - this was well organised by the team and made for a fabulous setting and atmosphere. Food choice, service and quality were all fantastic and the castle now being able to offer couples a menu tasting only provides further reassurance. Breakfast in the bridal suite the following morning was also fantastic! We were able to remove the soup course from the meal which we found meant people were satisfied yet not stuffed and therefore ready to dance after the meal! The downstairs entertainment area is a gorgeous and very unique location for partying late into the night and also allows for a seamless transition from the meal into the evening entertainment. Our numbers were 160 which meant to dance floor was nicely full all night - perhaps larger numbers might struggle a little for dancing space? The kitchen area also provided a quieter space especially for some of our older guests to relax and have a chat. Our only recommendation would be to check exactly the inclusions for the drinks reception which may help you to plan and anticipate a little more though it is so hard to gauge how much people may consume especially on a warm, sunny day outdoors.
Deirdre, Nicholas and all of the team really helped us to have what we can only describe as a magical day. Since our big day we have had endless compliments regarding the venue and all of its provisions and would whole heartedly recommend this venue to anyone and everyone seeking a fairytale day.

Bringing 80 Americans to Ireland on St. Patrick's Day weekend seems like a daunting task.
It wasn't. The staff at Markree made it all so simple. From our first meeting with the wedding coordinator, through the year of planning, up until we all left the castle, everything was seamless. Not a day goes by that a guest or a friend who just sees a picture is blown away by the beauty of the venue.
We loved our experience with Markree. I want to go back and get married every year!

Everything was excellent. Staff were welcoming, attentive and professional. The food was superb. The Castle itself is stunning. A really enjoyable wedding thanks to the willingness of the staff. All requests were met with a can do attitude and a smile! Being one of two Irish people at the wedding I was very proud. All the other guests had travelled from the US.

We had our wedding celebrations here on the 20th and 21st October.
We couldn't have had a more incredible weekend if we tried.
We knew Markree was special from even seeing it outside while it was undergoing renovations a few years ago. It was about the 4th venue we saw last year (and we saw a lot of top class venues) but just blew the rest out of the water once we walked inside.

The building itself is absolutely stunning. No expense has been spared in undergoing the restorations and it has been so thoughtfully laid out and the comfort as well as style of all the interiors and unique rooms were fantastic. The glorious dining room has been updated and made even more beautiful (if that was even possible) and creating the downstairs dancing area and two bars was the best idea. Having the kitchen and the sitting rooms dotted around adds a nice element of privacy and the ability to have a chat and chill in between the dancing.
Markree has the perfect balance of the stunning location while retaining a certain warmth and class without being pretentious. All of our guests just thoroughly enjoyed themselves from start to finish and the extended bar time helped the celebrations run well into the early hours.

Reg, the chef was amazing to meet. He is so passionate about the food and has brilliant ideas that work and catering for the large numbers of guests. We really appreciated his time and the amazing food he created for us over the weekend - we are real foodies so was very important to us to have a meal that befitted the surroundings and the occasion. The wine list that they have is also of a high standard (we decided to upgrade from the house wine) and loved the wine we had on the day. we loved the salmon gradvalax in particular from the starter, the curried parsnip and sweet potato veloute and gin sorbet worked really well and the lamb was absolutely super for the mains. The halibut was also very tasty. The trio of desserts worked really well although I didn't get to eat enough of it!
Agi, Emer and Alex played a blinder over the weekend ensuring everything was organised, well run and the service and bar staff were all brilliant. They are also all the nicest people to have dealt with. Thank you also to Cora for the help in the run up to the wedding. Patricia in the Homefarm was absolutely wonderful, helping to manage all our guests and work with some tricky scenarious - we are so grateful to her.
Finally, to Philip. He is without a doubt the most impressively meticulous, organised, helpful man to have worked with. He met with us countless times, never rushed us, went out of his way to accommodate us on many occasions. He's the kind of guy you can honestly trust with your life, give great recommendations and no better person to run the kind of venue like Markree - he will not let you down. He was just stellar from start to finish and we are incredibly indebted to him for making our weekend the greatest success.

The only minor comment I can think of is that the dining room was quite hot but it was an unseasonably warm day outside (which is probably a good complaint to have).

We can't begin to describe the absolute joy we had over the weekend and on leaving, couldn't hold back the tears - the weekend having beaten all expectations. It's impossible to put in words how much Markree will always mean to us and the memories that we and our families and friends will have for the rest of our lives. We are so grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a success and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this venue.

We fell in love with Markree castle immediately, and Unchin the wolfhound puppy sold us on it! Philip and Cora were fantastic, and everything was seamless on the day, despite us having very large numbers! All of our guests commented on how special the venue was. Wouldn't change a single thing!

The venue itself is out of this world honestly, you will not believe such a venue exists and the management and staff are also outstanding... we had the pleasure of having this private venue for 3 nights for our wedding on the 20th of April 2018. We first went to view the venue in August 2017 on what can only be described as a wet, grey and winters day, typical unreliable Irish weather!! Despite the weather, the Castle was still beyond amazing and we looked to book dates immediately as we knew this was the only venue for us and our guests. We also knew at that stage that the typical Irish weather would have no effect on the day as the castle provides such luxury and service which gave us great comfort in booking and planning our wedding.
We initially dealt with Philip on dates and worked closely then with Cora for all the details of our 3 day wedding. The entire experience and process was great for us, we had a lot of detail for Cora and she met and exceeded our expectations... Trish, Philip, Cora and the rest of the team were exceptional and we highly recommend Markree as a private hire venue for any and all occasions. We had a dinner party/rehearsal dinner on the evening before the wedding which was superb, the wedding day was exceptional including the drinks reception, canapes, wedding dinner, signature cocktails, and late night food. The day after we had an amazing BBQ that our guests loved... we really cannot recommend this venue enough and would love to do it all again...

We got married in Markree Castle in March 2018 and we had the most unbelievable day. As cliched as it sounds, it was just the best day we could ever have asked for. Having our wedding ceremony and venue all in the one place was something we really wanted and Markree Castle catered brilliantly to this. We had our civil ceremony in the castle. There is a church onsite that was built by the original family in the 1500's and it is truly the most beautiful place for your ceremony. It is on the smaller side (we had 190 guests so it wasn't possible to fit them all in) but this is no fault to the hotel. It is an original feature of the castle, built in around the 1500's so it is as authentic as they come in terms of historical castles. Had we been getting married at a warmer time of the year (in Ireland I know this is always 50/50) we would have had the ceremony outside to accommodate all our guests and then pictures in the church inside after. The church being smaller didn't affect our day whatsoever. Our pictures on the grounds were so good. There had been a film crew there for a few weeks before our wedding, recording a drama series of Prince Harry and Megan's wedding. They actually were leaving the day of our wedding and, at the managements request, they left all the flowers they had put in the gardens for filming for our wedding. This was such a great touch. We had beautiful pictures in a rose garden in March, which was very unusual given we had a snowstorm the week before!
The food was top quality, really amazing. The staff were excellent. The dining room is, without doubt, one of the most stunning rooms you will ever see. It has been restored to the highest possible standard and we had some unbelievable photos taken in that room. You need to see it to really do it justice. While it might not be your conventional wedding day dining room, (as in generally the room being one large open space), I don't think this detracted from the overall feeling of togetherness at all. It still felt very connected and the day flowed perfectly. I loved that when dinner was finished, the room was closed and everyone had to move to the downstairs section. The gin bar is such a unique feature as well. It was all just very seamless and we enjoyed our day so much. Trish, Philip and Cora were very responsive to all our needs and replied to all our emails without delay. We look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Markee castle looks amazing!!! Having my wedding at Cabra Castle this year, the staff are just great.. have been all sister castles, and could not complain about any Castle!! Always have a very good experience!! So I can safely say the service in Markee Castle will be the exact same.. highly recommend any of these castles for an amazing experience on the run up to your big day xx

We were so glad that we chose Markree Castle as our wedding venue. It was a wonderful experience overall, and even more so because of the venue and setting. All of our guests commented on the fact that there was no traveling between the marriage venue and the reception venue because we were able to have the ceremony performed there in the beautiful chapel within the castle. Our wedding photos are beautiful because we had use of the extensive grounds of the castle, we were also able to include the entire bridal party in the photos on the sweeping stone staircases. The meal was wonderful and everybody, including myself and the groom felt so relaxed because the venue was private, so literally everybody there was chosen by us, we were surrounded only by family and friends. It was just a very easy-going, relaxed, fun wedding. I would only change a very small number of things about the day, and I'm sure I'm the only one who noticed those things because I'm a perfectionist!!
