The Red Door Country House was delighted to be awarded Restaurant Venue of the Year 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and 2023 at the weddingsonline Awards!
We are an exclusive venue offering the venue to you both, your families and friends for the day of your wedding, we will also offer you exclusive access on the morning after your wedding to our dining room for your breakfast with your bridal party. We are nestled among mature trees and landscaped gardens, The Red Door Country House stands proudly on the banks of Lough Swilly in the historic village of Fahan, just a few miles south of Buncrana in Inishowen, Co.Donegal. The exclusive setting, unrivalled scenery and fantastic variation in colour in every season provide a stunning backdrop for wedding celebrations of 80 – 140 guests. We can cater for slightly larger numbers, with use of an marquee added on to our restaurant.
Offering the warmest hospitality, laid back luxury, award-winning food and attention to detail, you are guaranteed a truly memorable wedding day when you choose The Red Door. Traditional open fires in the Bar and ‘Kate’s Room’ enhance the homely atmosphere and these areas provide a perfect meeting place for guests before and after dinner.
Wedding ceremonies and receptions are held in the beautifully appointed ‘Willow Room’, ‘Violet Room’ and ‘Scarlet Room’.

The Red Door is an intimate wedding venue. Staff couldn't have done enough for us on the day and on the run up to the wedding.
The setting of the venue is stunning on the lake and the dinning room is beautiful. There are also lovely snugs/rooms around for people to socialise and have drinks.
One of the highlights was the food. Everyone commented that it was the nicest wedding food that they've ever had. How the chefs can cater such high standards to so many people us beyond me! One person said it was way better than the Shelbourne and we agree!

Stunning, private water-front location. The food is still being talked about! It was unbelievably delicious and the quality of the produce was top class. Excellent value for money in our opinion. Frances and the team couldn't have done enough for us. We felt so special on the day and on the lead up to it. They were all so friendly and professional. We are so glad we chose The Red Door. The venue is breath-taking and all our guests, both from the area and beyond, were blown away by the location and overall facilities. The food is always incredible and all our guests commented on how delicious each and every course was. We really could not recommend this place more. It is the ideal wedding venue- we just wish we could do it all again!!

I would very highly recommend a wedding at The Red Door! Frances and her team are absolute professionals and work with you as a couple in a friendly, open and relaxed way. We had to change our wedding plans multiple times due to covid and each time Frances and previously, Linda were very quick to get back to us and worked hard to help our plans come together. No matter what we asked about Frances worked with us to make it happen and she had everything in hand.
The venue was amazing on the day, so beautifully presented and all the staff were friendly and professional. So many of our guests commented on the staff who served their meal, each guest got exactly what they ordered without having to be asked to confirm their order. This was especially remarkable as many guests ordered steaks cooked to their liking! How so many delicious meals were cooked at the same time to such a high level is remarkable to me!
The food was amazing, some guests commented to us that it was the best meal they had in their life - not just the best wedding food!
We enjoyed our day immensely from start to finish and so much of that was down to how relaxed we felt knowing that The Red Door had everything in hand. We can't thank them enough!

The venue itself is spectacular, we were delighted we didn't have to leave the grounds for photos on our wedding day. Exclusive use of the venue is a major bonus too!
The food was delicious, it is extremely rare to get a restaurant quality meal served at a wedding! They were also very accommodating to our coeliac and vegan guests.
The staff could not do enough for us, special thanks goes to Frances, Mags & Peter! We could not have done it without you!

We had such an amazing day at the Red Door. I had my dream wedding here and everything was perfect from start to finish. As a bride I was panicking a little towards the end wondering how all would go on the day but I needn't have worried a bit.
Frances and the team are the height of professionalism and what's more all the staff are lovely, friendly people. They truly made the day extra special. Many of the guests even mentioned how great Frances and the staff were.
The location is absolutely stunning for wedding photos. We got so many snaps at the water, on the swing and under some of the beautiful big trees on the grounds.
The menu was something that stood out when we were looking at venues and The Red Door is a real gem for foodies. The quality of the produce and the skill that the chef has is second to none. It was absolutely delicious.
The only thing I didn't like was leaving!
I can't think of anywhere better that we could have celebrated our big day. The Red Door is one special special place and those who make the magic happen are a credit to the venue.
Frances and the team are the height of professionalism and what's more all the staff are lovely, friendly people. They truly made the day extra special. Many of the guests even mentioned how great Frances and the staff were.
The location is absolutely stunning for wedding photos. We got so many snaps at the water, on the swing and under some of the beautiful big trees on the grounds.
The menu was something that stood out when we were looking at venues and The Red Door is a real gem for foodies. The quality of the produce and the skill that the chef has is second to none. It was absolutely delicious.
The only thing I didn't like was leaving!
I can't think of anywhere better that we could have celebrated our big day. The Red Door is one special special place and those who make the magic happen are a credit to the venue.

We had our wedding reception in The Red Door and it was absolutely amazing. I wouldn't change a single thing. From the food and drinks, to the decor and atmosphere, the views and the Christmas decorations, the staff and service - everything was perfect. We honestly couldn't recommend Frances and her fantastic team enough. The planning process was easy and enjoyable and no request was ever too much. It has almost been one year now since our wedding at the Red Door and we are still receiving wonderful comments from friends and family on this venue. It is a truly magical place to celebrate something so special. There is not one negative thing we can say.
The venue itself is so beautiful, intimate and has an atmosphere like nowhere else.
The location is unique along the waterfront, surrounded by lovely gardens with a stunning backdrop of the mountains and hills behind - it is breathtaking.
The food is to the absolute highest standards and quality, you will not find finer food than at the Red Door.
The outstanding level of friendliness and professionalism of the staff at the Red Door is rare and something this venue should be proud of. Frances Doherty is a Queen. Throughout the planning and especially on the day nothing is impossible for Frances and she will go above and beyond for you and all of your guests.
There is truly nowhere else in Ireland like this venue(and I would argue further than this), it is impossible to be disappointed; from the moment we first enquired to have our wedding reception here up to this day now when we return to visit we have been so warmly welcomed and taking care of.

We only looked at a few possible wedding venues but very quickly decided to go with the Red Door when we visited. Right from the start Frances and Linda were brilliant; profession, warm and welcoming and incredibly accommodating. We had planned for a July 2020 wedding but this was interrupted by the pandemic, so we had to move dates twice and also reduced our guest numbers. The Red Door could not have been more accommodating; we weren't put under pressure despite what we imagine must have been a very stressful for themselves. Communication throughout was excellent. On the actual wedding day, The Red Door was perfect. We had the venue to ourselves and our guests so it felt very exclusive, but still relaxed and homely with lots of character. We had around 76 guests which seemed to be a good number and the venue nicely filled up although it could have accommodated more. Everything ran as smoothly as we could have hoped and the wedding dinner was amazing and every bit as good as the Restaurant is when not catering for a wedding. As the Venue has just 4 guest bedrooms our guests found accommodation close by and there are lots of options including guest houses and hotels in Buncrana; The Red Door also arranged transport. Our guests all seemed to love the venue for including the wedding dinner. We had a private breakfast with our parents the next morning before some of our guests joined us for afternoon tea and again Frances and her team were incredibly accommodating. There are ample photo opportunities on site. We would gladly choose the Red Door again and I have already recommend it to other couples planning their own wedding.

One word ?unbelievable?. From the day we booked the wedding until the day we got married, everything was exceptional. Francis, Mags and Co, went out of their way to make our day absolutely perfect. Nothing was a bother, and whatever we asked for they helped us. The setting if anyone who ever hasn't been at the Red Door is exceptional, everyone was made feel extremely welcomed when they landed. The food, which we already knew from previous weddings we attended was top drawer. Everyone commented how good it was. Everything exceeded our expectations and If there was a way I could review it for more than 5 stars, I would give it 10

We stumbled across the Red Door one Sunday afternoon when we stopped in for some lunch. As soon as we drove down the entry we both knew we wanted to get married there. We planned our wedding during the numerous lockdowns and Frances and her team could not have did more to help us. The limits on guest numbers and music changed right up to the week of our wedding and again absolutely nothing was a problem, we were able to change up to the very last minute.
We got married with 100 guests, who all still rave about the quality of food and service at the Red Door. The steak was a firm favorite.

From start to finish, everything was top quality and made so easy for us, the staff really took care of everything and thought of everything, helping us to really feel at ease during such a stressful time. We celebrated both our marriage ceremony and wedding reception at The Red Door last October. We could not have wanted for a more special and intimate venue. All of our family and friends were amazed by the beautiful setting and the delicious food we were served. Their attention to detail is second to none, every last element is carefully thought of. The wedding coordinators are are pleasure to deal with and promptly answer emails, make helpful suggestions and ease the stresses of wedding planning. Our wedding day at The Red Door went beyond all our expectations. Frances and Linda were extremely supportive every step of the way with us up to and throughout our wedding day. Our wedding ceremony was beautiful. It was held in a marquee overlooking the stunning views of Lough Swilly. Afterwards, guests were offered canapes and drinks while we had our photos taken. The new outdoor seating area was perfect for the guests to relax and enjoy the live music.
The dinner was superb. The choice of starters and main courses were all cooked to perfection and were served in an impeccable fashion thanks to the professionalism of each member of staff.

The attention to detail by the staff at the red door was impeccable. I was a little worried that the decorations, photo booth etc I had brought to the venue a few days before our wedding wouldn't be laid out as I had wanted however I left instructions and it was set up better than if I had done it myself, absolutely brilliant! Everything was perfect from start to finish, a dream day in the perfect setting.

The Red Door is a wedding venue that surpassed not just my expectations but also that of our guests. The standard of service and quality of food was superb. Any correspondence prior to the wedding was promptly responded to. All staff were so friendly and helpful on the day even going to the shop in the next town for goats milk for a guests baby.
In preparation for the wedding the wedding coordinators kept in touch and were flexible and ready to accommodate any requests I had for the days proceedings from an unusually early start time to the decorations and layout.

We were thoroughly happy with the entire process of having our wedding celebrations hosted by the Red Door. The venue staff worked with us to find commonsense solutions to any queries or niggles we had, and we really appreciated their no-fuss approach. The venue was a great location, the food was superb (a serious cut above most wedding fare), the staff were professional, friendly and accommodating. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the venue to any couple looking to stage a similar size wedding reception.

I don't think we could have picked a better venue than the red door to host our wedding. The staff service was second to none... nothing was a problem and they could not have done enough to ensure the day ran smoothly and our guests were looked after. Our experience of having our wedding day at The Red Door was wonderful. The entire team made the run-up to the wedding stress-free, they were open to every request we had and made us feel very special on the day itself.
The venue was presented stunningly, with the outside marquee overlooking Lough Swilly, and we got feedback from many of our guests that it was hands down the best wedding food they?d ever had.
The real test of a wedding venue comes when something doesn't go exactly to plan on the day, which inevitably will happen. There was a burst water mains pipe in a nearby town, meaning no running water in the surrounding areas from 6am until late in the evening on our wedding day. To emphasise how professional and flexible the team was, we didn't even realise ourselves that they had no running water as they worked tirelessly to keep topping up tanks all day long with bottled water, while also doing all their other wedding day jobs.

The attention to detail for every aspect of our day was exceptional. All of our guests were raving about the food, staff and venue. I could not fault any aspect of our day. We had the most amazing wedding day all thanks to The Red Door.

We had our wedding here in May and I can't thank the Red Door enough, all our guests complimented us on the quailty of the food and how helpful all the staff were. Frances and her team couldn't do enough for us leading up to our wedding too. I would recommend the Red Door to anyone.

The Red Door team welcomes you with competency & their passion for service is incomparable. At all times troughout the pre-wedding process from booking to the big day. The team are available always. They check-in regularly. All you need to do is turn up! They pull out all the stops plus go beyond. They made us the happiest memories. The only regret you would have, would be if you didn't book your wedding at the Red Door. We are glad we did.

We chose the Red Door Country House for its intimate feel, it was like home from home for us as we were having a small wedding and the surroundings speak for themselves. I cannot fault the staff at all...very professional and always at the end of the phone or email if you needed anything, Francis is an asset to the Red Door!! Beautiful place with beautiful people! 5 stars all round!

My husband and I could not fault The Red Door, everything from our first meeting until our wedding day was handled excellent, always keeping in contact and checking everything was ok. The staff, surroundings, layout of the wedding venue and the food are all top notch...staff were all so attentive and paid attention to our needs. If you are looking for the best wedding venue, this is definitely the place. All our guests absolutely loved everything about the red door also...and the food is to die for!! Such an intimate and special place.

We had an amazing experience with Leanne, Frances and all the team at The Red Door. From the moment we walked in, we knew this was the venue for us. It's so warm and welcoming with its beautiful vintage decor, and the grounds and views are the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos.
Our whole experience from initial contact to leaving day day after the wedding was second to none! The food is divine! Even if you're not getting married, go for the food, seriously!!!
Frances made sure the actual wedding day went smoothly, including guiding the bridesmaids through their 'walk up the aisle' and not freaking out at us when we broke their knife trying to cut the wedding cake! (My aunt forgot to tell us she had left a cake board inside!!!!)
If we could do it all over again, we would still get married at The Red Door. Now we just need to plan a few more events to have here.

The staff at The Red Door could not have done enough to help us prepare for our big day, from the moment we got engaged right through to the day itself. We had our dream wedding, the day was so magical and relaxing and that's because of the effort from all the staff at The Red Door. The meal was 5 star and guests are still talking about it! Leanne, Frances and the team at the Red Door are truly wonderful! They really help take the stress out of organising your big day. They are really flexible and so easy to talk to and throw ideas round with. From start to finish they were simply amazing and made our day so special! They were on hand to help with anything and everything and were so attentive to all the guests. The Red Door has amazing staff, food, accommodation and atmosphere. Best wedding venue in Ireland by far! I could rave about them all day long!
