A Classic Wedding with a Fairytale Theme

“We just had a classic wedding, all very relaxed and how we imagined it. There wasn’t a theme, it was more about having the people we care and love around us to celebrate our big day. More of a fairytale if we were to put a theme on it.”

How did you meet and get engaged?

We worked together in the Eastern Seaboard Bar & Grill. Alan proposed at a Bruno Mars concert while he sang “Just the way you are”.

Describe your wedding:

We just had a classic wedding, all very relaxed and how we imagined it. There wasn’t a theme, it was more about having the people we care and love around us to celebrate our big day. More of a fairytale if we were to put a theme on it.

Tell us about your bridal look:

Traditional big fairytale dress, complete opposite to what I had imagined but fell in love with it as soon as I saw it in the shop! Minimal makeup as I don’t wear a lot usually with a classic smoky eye and nude lipstick. My hair was up to show off the amazing detail on the back of my dress. The Matthews girls put me at ease on the morning of my big day getting me ready.

What did your bridesmaids wear?

Bridesmaids wore simple satin dresses in a blue/grey colour! Stunning to show off their amazing figures.

What was your ceremony like?

We had a blessing in St. Mary’s Church. A close friend Mo Glasgow did the flowers for us. The priest, Fr. Fergal is quite the character so he made it so easy and relaxing for everyone. It was a little different as we picked all the songs/hymns ourselves, not the traditional wedding music you’d expect so was nice to have something a little different.

Tell us about your wedding venue:

Darver is spectacular, we wanted to have our wedding somewhere that knew how to give a couple the best experience on their big day. From the grounds to the castle, everything is amazing and really has that magical vibe you want on your big day.
It’s not too big or too small, and really holds the crowd together.
Every little detail was looked after by the team in Darver so we really only had to set back and relax and enjoy the day.

What is your favourite memory from your wedding day?

It’s very hard to pick one moment as it really was the perfect day for us.
Perhaps seeing each other for the first time in the church, we both had tears of joy.
Our first dance, Alan proposed at a Bruno Mars concert so our first song was always going to be a Bruno Mars song and the guys did a mash up for us.
Just having all our close friends and family there with us the celebrate, it really all was amazing.

Have you got any advice for other couples?

Don’t leave things until the last minute.
Everyone always says it, but just do little bits every month.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, there is always someone who wants to help.
Take a bit of time during the day to just take it all in, it goes by so fast.
