The Great Southern, Killarney

We recently had the pleasure of having our wedding reception at The Great Southern Killarney. It was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we first walked into this hotel in December 2019, we knew this was the one. From start to finish, nothing was too much trouble. We planned our wedding from Australia, and the patience of the wedding team, Christina & Julie had with us due to the time difference was amazing. We only arrived home from Australia a month before the wedding, we had our final meeting with Christina and she was such a pleasure to deal with even our last-minute changes to things was not an issue for them.

The setting was absolutely breath-taking. The Great Southern is nestled amidst lush gardens and offers stunning views that made the perfect backdrop for our photos. Our guests enjoyed our drinks reception while taking in the picturesque surroundings.

The hotel, the staff, the professionalism and the food were out of this world. The setup of the drinks reception and dining hall was beautifully decorated and exactly what we asked for.

Our vision of our special day was executed flawlessly. We are so grateful and thankful to everyone in The Great Southern and honestly cannot thank them enough.

We got engaged in August 2022 and started the search for our wedding venue almost immediately. We knew we wanted to get married locally and had visited a number of hotels in Killarney. We arrived to the Great Southern on a very wet day in August and the roaring fire and cosy atmosphere convinced us immediately that this was where we wanted to celebrate our wedding!

We knew we wanted a short engagement and thought that this might be difficult to achieve but the wedding team, Christine and Julie, assured us that this was manageable. We took some time to decide if we wanted a date in February or April and the wedding team were so patient and accommodating while we made our decision. We never felt under pressure and they were even happy to hold the two dates for a number of days until we had made our decision.

Christina was a pleasure to deal with - we were kept in the loop at every step of the way which made the planning very easy. Christina guided us through our planning and gave us so many suggestions on the decor, table arrangements, drinks reception and menu options but the wedding team was also very open to any tweaks we wanted to make.

The month before the wedding we did a zoom call with Christina in which she went through a rundown of our wedding day - this answered so many of our questions and we knew we were in safe hands with her! We had a number of last minute changes to make the week of the wedding and nothing was ever too much trouble!

We booked the Railway Cottage for the groomsmen the night before the wedding and it was a fabulous place to stay and get ready. The Great Southern were also happy for us to drop off wedding paraphernalia the week of our wedding which took a lot of pressure off and allowed us to lead in to the wedding.

The wedding package offered great value for money, especially when compared with other venues in Kerry. We were so delighted with our drinks reception - the area was so bright and beautifully decorated and everybody spoke about how tasty the canapés were. The waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating. Christine was so attentive and worked tirelessly to ensure our day was memorable - she made us feel so special! The food and wine was a very high quality and the servings were really generous - guests were even offered second helpings and they raved about the food afterwards!

The honeymoon suite is a beautiful, luxurious room and we were even allowed stay there the night after our wedding - we didn’t want to leave!

We cannot thank the Great Southern enough for making our special day so memorable. It will always be a special place for us and full of very happy memories! We are really looking forward to visiting again soon to celebrate our first wedding anniversary!

We had the most amazing weekend. The entire staff were so professional, nothing was ever too much. They go above and beyond for you. All our guests were so impressed.

We cannot recommend or thank The Great Southern enough. They went above and beyond to make our wedding day so special. We had the best experience in the run up to the wedding even though we were dealing with lockdowns and covid-19. We were delighted to have 100 guests on the day. Gillan, Denise and Katie were fantastic to deal with.

Denise the wedding planner was absolutely fantastic, myself and my Husband were extremely laid back about our wedding and Denise didn't place any pressure on us. She just helped every step of the way. All the staff in the great southern were fabulous, from the cleaners to the bar staff to the wait staff. Both our families were raving about the service they recieved, on how professional the hotel was and what a beautiful setting it was. Myself and my Husband were delighted to have our wedding in the Great Southern

We got married in The Malton Hotel on the 30th of December 2016.
Since we booked The Malton they have been extremely helpful. They were always at the end of the phone/computer ready to answer any questions or requests we had.
We were very happy with our tasting that we had prior to the wedding but the food on the day far surpassed our expectations. Everyone was delighted with the meal. The staff were friendly while remaining professional. Madeline was excellent on the night helping us organise ourselves and ensured the night ran smoothly.
We could not have asked for any better.

Have to mention as well that a family member's child was sick on the night with tonsilitis and they told us the following day that the hotel went above and beyond to help them which I thought was way above what was expected of them. Thank you so much for an unforgettable day & night.

I found the wedding planners there to be so helpful. We were planning our wedding from abroad and they couldn't have done more to help us arrange everything we wanted. The wedding packages offer good value for money and the food was of a very high standard - something which many of our guests commented on, they were amazed that their steaks were cooked to their liking. Not an easy task for 200 people. The reception area looked great and the staff on duty for our wedding were so nice and accomodating. They really made our guests so welcome.

We also got ready in the hotel in the bridal suite which is beautiful, vintage decor and with a separate living area it was perfect if you have a big bridal party. We were extremely pleased with the photos. The photographer took photos using the hotel as a backdrop also which in October was stunning because of the autumn colors. There really was nothing negative I can think of to say.

We got married on the 18th of June in The Malton and from the very first day I contacted them, to minding my wedding dress after I left in the hotel when checking out (!) they were nothing but professional and extremely easy to deal with. Being from Killarney it was a no brainer from me where to have to my wedding and I'm delighted to say it still exceeded my expectations.
Every email was answered promptly, if the question couldn't be answered straight away, they would get back to me. I was never chasing them for answers. They were always up front about cost and were happy to keep that in mind. We had a lovely evening doing the menu tasting and in the few weeks leading up to the wedding I felt like I was the only bride getting married there with all the attention they gave me. There's a reason they have so many weddings there a year, because they're extremely good at what they do.
We had an absolutely amazing day and there's nothing I could fault, even months later looking back. I would no hesitation recommending the Malton for a wedding.

My husband and I were married in The Malton in April The day was perfect I cannot recommend The Malton enough.

We were thrilled with our wedding reception at the Malton hotel in November 2015. From the beginning the wedding planner and all staff were so helpful-they were so accommodating when we wanted to arrange our own table centrepieces. The entrance to the hotel was so impressive and was a lovely setting for our guests! The food was amazing, we had a big wedding with 260 guests and everyone was delighted with their meals. The honeymoon suite was amazing and we loved meeting all our family and friends the next day!
We would have loved to have had good weather to enjoy the drinks reception outside but as it was the end of November the hotel had the Christmas decorations up which made a very cosy atmosphere. We really enjoyed every second of our wedding at the Malton.

We could not have asked for a better or more professional service. Everything was flawless.
