An Elegant Aubergine and Gold Wedding

Their main aim was to be relaxed, elegant and classic. It was most important to Edel and Bernard that their friends and family had a good day. They are really glad about this now because Covid came along shortly after. Their colours were an aubergine purple with bits of gold scattered around.

Edel and Bernard met 11 years ago in McDonald’s. Bernard was working and Edel was going out with friends. They knew of each other beforehand because their parents were friends. “Bernard proposed in Glendalough which is where we had our first date when I was in secondary school. He proposed at the top of The Spink.”

Their main aim was to be relaxed, elegant and classic. It was most important to Edel and Bernard that their friends and family had a good day. They are really glad about this now because Covid came along shortly after. Their colours were an aubergine purple with bits of gold scattered around.

Edel chose an a-line Blue by Enzoani dress. It was in a dark ivory colour, so not a traditional shade. She wanted a soft and elegant look that would be timeless and she couldn’t have been happier with my dress. Bernard wanted to also keep his look classic but still adding a bit of flare. He had a navy suit, check grey and blue waistcoat with a classic pocket watch and brown shoes. He also wore the brown leather watch Edel got him as a wedding gift.

The bridesmaids wore an aubergine/burgundy shade from Dresscode and they looked stunning. The groomsmen wore navy suits with a plain waistcoat.

“We had a big focus on music. We spent a lot of time choosing the right music for our ceremony. I walked up the aisle to Songbird by Eva Cassidy. We wanted to keep it romantic while adding a bit of Christmas to the mass. We had O Holy Night during Communion. We wanted to finish with a bang and get everyone in the mood for the reception so we walked out of the church to Paradise by George Ezra which really got the crowd going! Our florist had gorgeous arrangements in the church, candles going up the aisle and white cherry blossom trees at the top of the alter.”

“Our venue was Lyrath Estate. They went above and beyond to make our day perfect. I can’t say enough about Gaming, events manager. He was fantastic. From making us feel comfortable before the speeches to helping me change into my flats for dancing! The venue was decorated beautifully for Christmas.”

Edel and Bernard chose Ken Byrne Photography to capture their day. “Ken and Aine are just amazing. We knew they had to be a part of our wedding from the moment we met them at a wedding fair. They were just so enthusiastic and it was clear they absolutely love what they do! It also makes a huge difference that Ken and Aine are life partners. They bounce off each other and know one another so well which makes the day run so smoothly. I had nothing but confidence in them from the moment we met them, and my instincts were correct. They were a huge part of our day and we feel like we made two friends for life which not many people can say!”

For entertainment, Edel and Bernard had Marie Fox sing at the church and their reception drinks. They chose The Poorboys as their band, and they had people on the dancefloor for the entire night. Everybody was raving about them! And for favours, they gave everybody scratch cards. They were really hoping somebody would end the year on a high!

Edel’s favourite memory was the church which she was initially very nervous about. It was such a speical moment and something she will always cherish.

Relax. The day will happen whether you panic and worry or not. Enjoy the planning, the mayhem and all the craziness leading up to it because it is only a day that will happen once and it is over in the blink of an eye. Also drink prosecco at every single opportunity you can!”
